productivity and occupant comfort. It entails reducing energy consumption by utilising renewable energy sources, energy-efficient materials, and technology. Another
crucial element is resource conservation, which involves recycling resources and reducing waste. Prioritising occupant health and indoor environmental quality is
another aspect of sustainable construction. We may develop structures that satisfy current demands while ensuring a healthier and more sustainable future for future
generations by implementing sustainable building practises.
Project Background
Bangunan Kuarters Bomba Bintulu, Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia (JBPM) Negeri Sarawak is a nine-story building that comprises the ground level and
elevator motor room floor. Arkitek Nuritna Matnor was in charge of the architectural design, Konsortium Bistari CS Sdn Bhd was in charge of the civil engineering, Kraft
Engineering Consultants Sdn Bhd was in charge of the mechanical engineering, and Kumpulan Ukor Bahan Sarawak was in charge of the quantity surveying.
It is crucial to remember that the structure does not adhere to sustainability and green building principles. It lacks energy-saving architectural elements including
insulation, passive solar techniques, and effective lighting systems. As a result, there is an increase in energy use and a rise in carbon emissions.
It is deficient in crucial sustainable and green building components. Its incompatibility with sustainable development principles and negative environmental impact are
worsened by the lack of energy-efficient design, renewable energy use, resource conservation measures, waste reduction strategies, improvements to indoor
environmental quality, water-saving fixtures, and environmental mitigation initiatives.
OCCUPANTS
1. Kuarters
Government authorities or civil servants may be given the quarters if they are assigned to
work in the region, especially the firefighters.
Other public servants that need accommodation close to their workplace include healthcare
professionals, and staff members of governmental organisations.
2. Fire Station
Professional firefighters are the primary inhabitants of a fire station and are in charge of
responding to fire emergencies, carrying out fire prevention operations, and performing
rescue services.
In addition to firefighters, fire stations may also include administrative staff, mechanics who
maintain the fire trucks and other equipment, and other employees who help with day-to-day
operations.
