Monthly Learning Journey

Theme: What are our favourite


things to do during summer?

Children will learn about changes, by remaining flexible and adaptable, responding positively to small,
incremental shifts leading to greater transformations.
During this module children will feel free to discuss places to visit during the summer holidays and also
share past experiences from their previous trips. They will use pictures and a map to plan or show their
itineraries and they will also discuss their means of transportation (by land, water or air).

Educational Objectives

During this module, children will be encouraged to talk about


things that have already happened (last summer) and things that
will happen throughout their summer holiday. They will also be
Communication & encouraged to stick to the main theme when talking freely and to
Language follow their speech line. Children will continue to develop new
vocabulary related to summer and holidays. They will also learn
rhymes, short poems and songs.

In terms of Personal, Social & Emotional Development, children


will be exposed to Sammy Seagull’s Summer Safety Story and
Personal, Social & they will be encouraged to think about ways in which they can
stay safe and stay healthy during the holiday, such as regular
Emotional Development physical activity, healthy eating, brushing teeth, sensible amounts
of ‘screen time’, having a good sleep routine, being a safe
pedestrian or swimmer.

Reception children will continue to develop confidence,


competence, precision and accuracy when engaging in activities
that involve a ball by playing different outdoor games involving
Physical Development balls of different sizes, such as beach balls, footballs or tennis
balls. Regarding fine motor skills, children will practise mark
making and writing in order to further develop or acquire an even
better tripod grip.

In Literacy, children will learn two new high frequency words: are
Literacy and all.
Also, we will continue to reinforce what they have learned, such
as the 7 sets of Jolly Phonics sounds, and high frequency words
learned so far.

Moreover, they will continue to reinforce reading simple phrases
and sentences made up of known words. They will re-read books
to build up their confidence in word reading, their fluency and
their understanding and enjoyment. They will also continue
writing short sentences using a capital letter and a full stop.
They will be encouraged to read what they have written in order
to check that it makes sense.

Children will have the opportunity to build upon their problem


solving skills while reading familiar stories that provide a great
starting point for problem solving. How many legs? is one
example. They will continue to explore and investigate the
Mathematics relationships between numbers and shapes. To further develop
their spatial reasoning, the children will listen to the story Me on
the map and be encouraged to design their own new room and to
draw a plan like Jack in If I built a House.

This module, children will learn about a range of contrasting


environments within both their local or national region. They will
use the vocabulary needed to name specific features of the
Understanding the natural world, both natural and man-made. The children will
listen to non-fiction texts that offer an insight into contrasting
World environments. They will practise how to communicate their
understanding of their own environment and contrasting
environments through conversation and in play. During outdoor
time, the children will be encouraged to name and recognise
familiar plants and animals while they are outside.

In terms of Expressive Arts and Design, children will be engaged


during activitiesi that will challenge them to use their imagination
Expressive Arts & Design in order to explore what they can do with different materials (e.g.
shaving foam, water and pieces of paper). Also, they will be
encouraged to continue to explore and engage in music making
and dance, performing solo or in groups.

Classroom & Events

● Summer Show - Friday, June 9th - Children will be dropped off by the parents at Rapsodia Hall location a
and they should eat the snack at home. Our colourful show will take place between 11:50 - 12:40, but pa
(Rapsodia Hall, no. 53, Lipscani Street).
● Trip to Edenland- June 21st.
● Last Day of Nursery - June 30th - Early dismissal day.
