The advancement of polymer materials in recent decades has led to the

ties of polymer materials. To summarize these achievements, many books

techniques were published. However, there are still few books that intro-
duce the common analytical methods of polymer materials.

This book explores the principles, instruments, sampling and applications


of common methods that are generally used in the research of polymer
materials. Based on the author’s 8 years of teaching undergraduates,
it covers chromatographic methods (gas chromatography, inverse gas
chromatography and pyrolysis gas chromatography), mass spectrom-

etry, spectroscopic methods (ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, infrared
spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance),
thermal analysis (differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravime-
try), microscopy methods (light microscopy, scanning electron microsco-
py, transmission electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy) and
X-ray diffraction. This textbook is accessible for undergraduates major-
ing in polymer materials as well as professionals looking for an introduc-
tion to commonly applied techniques.
