Hi everybody!

I have personally designed this ebook for

you to check and measure your communication skills.

This is a secret test that I give only to students who have

enrolled in the Communication Masterclass program.

Public speaking is the second thing that people are most

afraid of, death being the first.

People are afraid of being judged, they lack confidence

and hesitate to speak about their insecurities, but what if
we can keep all of these problems aside and test how ef-
fectively are you able to speak and communicate? Let’s
find out through this ultimate test.

Test your
Communication Skills

Step 1 : Choose any one of your favourite topic

Take two minutes and select a topic you like the

most. You consume content related to it and talk to
your friends about this topic. It could be any topic
you’re interested in and passionate about.
For instance, ‘Aerospace Engineering’ OR as simple
as *coughs* ‘Who is better - Ronaldo or Messi?’

Step 2 : Place a selfie camera in front of you

Place a selfie camera in front of you and set

a timer for 5 mins. If your selfie camera does
not support a timer, place a timer on the side.
If you get distracted by the selfie camera,
try with the rear camera of your phone.

Step 3 : Speak on the chosen topic

Speak on the chosen topic for 5 minutes

straight.

Analysis

Assuming that you have done the activity without cheating,

there are some things that you would have noticed.
Consider them as levels (1 to 5), as mentioned below.

Level 1
You would have started speaking very well in the first minute.

Level 2
In the second minute, you started to stutter in some sentences.
You were thinking of examples to explain your topic while
simultaneously speaking out.

Level 3
By the third minute you were taking breaks before speaking out.
You were mumbling before every word.

Level 4
By the fourth minute, you were speaking nothing that was interesting.

Level 5
Finally, by the fifth minute, you were thinking about what to speak
and looking at the timer for it to go off.

Now, according to the level you were at, check out the
final results.

Final Results

Result 1 : You were at Level 1.

Well, you were speaking about your favourite topic, you have
had enough to talk for the first minute. You were passionate and
intriguing enough for the first minute. You were full of energy and
put forward your best content.

If this was the case, check out the next result.

However, if this was not the case, you need to work a lot on
yourself. You need to open your mind and look for people who
speak about your favourite topic. Try to copy them. Try to take
content from them and then speak to yourself. Once you get
comfortable speaking to yourself, it becomes a bit easier to
talk to other people.

Result 2 : You were at Level 2.

In the second minute, you were not speaking as fluently as in the
first minute. All facts and stats got used up. You were wondering
what else you know about the topic. You started to recall every
piece of information you had about the topic.

You were thinking of examples to explain your topic or put

orward your point of view. Sometimes, you were stuttering.

www.thethinkschool.com 04
Unlike the first minute, you were getting conscious about each
sentence as you speak.

There was nothing at stake. Nobody was there to judge you.

There was nothing for you to lose.

In spite of having nothing at stake, you could not speak fluently

for just five minutes, even though it was your favourite topic.

The question is if there was no fear of judgement, nothing was at

stake and you were speaking about your favourite topic, why
couldn’t you speak well?

The only reason why you were not able to speak is because
you don’t have enough to speak!

You do not have enough knowledge about your favourite topic

to speak for just 5 mins.
It is perhaps the most important and most underrated reason
why you fear public speaking.

With the lack of content, you will never be able to go out there
and deliver an amazing speech. If there is nothing to say,
confidence does not matter

Also, most people think speaking confidently is equal to good

communication. Well, that is also not the case.

www.thethinkschool.com 05
Ladies and gentlemen, communication happens because of
understanding. And understanding comes from enough information.

Information -> Understanding -> Communication

If you do not have enough information, you cannot understand the

topic in detail. If you do not understand the topic in detail, you
cannot deliver a good speech or a good presentation.

It means you first need to gather enough information about the

topic you want to speak about and understand it in depth.

Then you need to learn storytelling, body language, structuring

your speech and preparing world-class presentations to deliver
worthy content and become a successful public speaker.

To learn more about communication, check out our

Communication Masterclass program.

If this was not the case and you have had enough content to
speak for the first two minutes, check out the next results.

Result 3 : You were at Level 3.

By the third minute, the sentences seemed haywire. There was
no structure to what you were speaking.

You were trying hard to structure sentences properly. You were

rying hard to think about current affairs related to the topic.

www.thethinkschool.com 06
You were thinking more and speaking less. You were stuttering,
sweating and taking deep breaths as to what else you could do
to make it interesting and speak for a good 5 minutes.

When you have enough content to speak, you need to have a set
structure. A defined structure sets the flow of the talk.

You need a strong opening point, a catchy analogy to explain

the topic, then put your point of view and finally a strong closure
to make the audience go crazy. This is just one structure that you
canuse. There are many more structures for delivering a memorable
talk.
If you want to learn the professional way of structuring your speech
and presentation, check out the Communication Masterclass.

If you think your talk had enough content and a set structure,
check out the next result.

Result 4 : You were at Level 4.

By the fourth minute, you were saying nothing interesting.
You were trying hard to recall details about the topic and speak
out anything and everything you could. You even repeated some
of the information from the first three minutes.

You could not build up the topic enough in the first two minutes
for it to give closure in the fourth or fifth minute. There was no hype
created in the first half. That’s where you got stuck.

www.thethinkschool.com 07
If you have seen standup comics or any movie in general, the first
half is about build-up. The context of the story is established.
The tiny details that people tend to ignore are inserted here.

Then in the second half, the story blows away your mind. The
audience is like ‘Shit! How did I miss that?’ This is what happens
when you are listening to a good speaker or watching a great
movie. But you missed it.

And this is not because of a lack of confidence or fear of judgement.

It is because you lack one very important skill - storytelling.

Stories make your content interesting. We all remember the moral

of Ramayana - ‘The importance of doing good deeds and always
helping others.’ Why? Because it was told as a story.

If you had an interesting story to tell, you are on the right path.
But, not all good storytellers are excellent communicators.
There’s more to communication than just storytelling. Check out
the next result for more insights

Result 5 : You were at Level 5.

This result is assuming you do have enough information and
understanding of the topic and you spoke for 5 minutes with
interesting content.

However, if you think you are still not able to convince people
about your opinions and gain their trust, continue reading.
