A. MODIFICATIONS

NOTE: As per EASA IR 21, a minor change is one that has no appreciable effect on the
mass, balance, structural strength, reliability, operational characteristics affecting
the airworthiness of the product. All other changes are major changes.

B. REASON

(1) History
A new standard of Flight Control Primary Computer (FCPC) has been developed
to introduce the new logic associated to “STOP RUDDER INPUT WARNING” (SRIW)
function applicable to A330 with mechanical rudder control (pre-MOD No.
49144S16279).
This SRIW function is expected to be mandated by an Airworthiness Directive (AD) on
A330-200/300 with mechanical rudder control (pre-MOD No. 49144S16279) through
the application of Service Bulletin No. A330-27-3232 (MOD No. 204828S32944 - FCDC
L26/M25/P16) and of its associated pre-requisites including present Service Bulletin
No. A330-27-3236 (refer to ISI 27.90.00045).
(2) Objective/Action
This Service Bulletin has been published to advise all operators of A330 aircraft of the
issue of AIRBUS OPERATIONS SAS Service Bulletin No. LA2K2-27-029.
This Service Bulletin recommends replacing FCPC standards P15/M24 2K2 with new
FCPC standards P15A/M24A 2K2.
To accomplish this Service Bulletin, you have three possibilities, as FCPC upgrade can
be done either:

- by replacement of the FCPCs on aircraft

- by replacement of associated On Board Replaceable Module (OBRM) set on
aircraft
- by replacement or reprogramming of OBRM as per AIRBUS OPERATIONS SAS
Service Bulletin No. LA2K2-27-029 on bench.
(3) Advantages
Accomplishment of this Service Bulletin introduces FCPC P15A/M24A standard
including new logic associated to SRIW function applicable to A330-200/300 with
mechanical rudder control (pre-MOD No. 49144S16279).
FCPC P15A/M24A 2K2 standard is also compatible with A330-200/300 with electrical
rudder control (post-MOD No. 49144S16279) however, on these aircrafts, this new

C. REASON

(1) History
A new standard of Flight Control Primary Computer (FCPC) has been developed
to introduce the new logic associated to “STOP RUDDER INPUT WARNING” (SRIW)
function applicable to A330 with mechanical rudder control (pre-MOD No.
49144S16279).
This SRIW function is expected to be mandated by an Airworthiness Directive (AD) on
A330-200/300 with mechanical rudder control (pre-MOD No. 49144S16279) through
the application of Service Bulletin No. A330-27-3232 (MOD No. 204828S32944 - FCDC
L26/M25/P16) and of its associated pre-requisites including present Service Bulletin
No. A330-27-3236 (refer to ISI 27.90.00045).
(2) Objective/Action
This Service Bulletin has been published to advise all operators of A330 aircraft of the
issue of AIRBUS OPERATIONS SAS Service Bulletin No. LA2K2-27-029.
This Service Bulletin recommends replacing FCPC standards P15/M24 2K2 with new
FCPC standards P15A/M24A 2K2.
To accomplish this Service Bulletin, you have three possibilities, as FCPC upgrade can
be done either:

- by replacement of the FCPCs on aircraft

- by replacement of associated On Board Replaceable Module (OBRM) set on
aircraft
- by replacement or reprogramming of OBRM as per AIRBUS OPERATIONS SAS
Service Bulletin No. LA2K2-27-029 on bench.
(3) Advantages
Accomplishment of this Service Bulletin introduces FCPC P15A/M24A standard
including new logic associated to SRIW function applicable to A330-200/300 with
mechanical rudder control (pre-MOD No. 49144S16279).
FCPC P15A/M24A 2K2 standard is also compatible with A330-200/300 with electrical
rudder control (post-MOD No. 49144S16279) however, on these aircrafts, this new
FCPC standard does not provide additional improvement regarding previous FCPC P15/
M24 2K2 standard.
(4) Operational/Maintenance Consequences
None

necessary before incorporation of the Service Bulletin.
G. MANPOWER
The manpower estimates given in this Service Bulletin are based on the direct labor cost to
do the work. These estimates assume that the work will be done by experienced personnel,
and may need to be revised upwards to suit operator’s circumstances. The estimates do not
include the time to prepare, plan or inspect the work. Manufacture and procurement of parts
and tools, drying times for paints, sealants, etc., and general administration work are also
not included.

WIRING IN A SATISFACTORY CONDITION (ELECTRICALLY AND MECHANICALLY
SERVICEABLE). WHEN YOU DO MAINTENANCE WORK, REPAIRS OR
MODIFICATIONS, ALWAYS KEEP ELECTRICAL WIRING, COMPONENTS AND
THE WORK AREA AS CLEAN AS POSSIBLE. TO DO THIS:
- PUT PROTECTION, SUCH AS PLASTIC SHEETING, CLOTHS, ETC., AS
NECESSARY ON WIRING AND COMPONENTS.

(b) Before replacement of the OBRMs:
1 On the FLT CTL section of the overhead Panel 241VU ( Panel 212VU), make
sure that the PRIM 1 (PRIM 2) (PRIM 3) pushbutton switch(es) is (are)
pushed (the OFF and FAULT legends of this (these) pushbutton switch(es)
are off).
2 Do the Built-In Test Equipment (BITE) test of the Electrical Flight Control
System (EFCS) (Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) IDENT), refer to Ref. AMM Task
27-96-00-740-807 and make sure that the old PN of the FCPCs ( FIN 2CE1,
FIN 2CE2 and FIN 2CE3) are correct.

NOTE: Print the LRU IDENTIFICATION page (if the printer is not available,
a visual check is acceptable).

3 Open, safety/lock and tag this (these) circuit breaker(s):

Procedure
(a) After power-up, on the FLT CTL section of the overhead Panel 241VU ( Panel 212

OPTION 3 - Upgrade by Reprogramming of FCPCs OBRMs in Accordance with VSB on Bench

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT YOU OBEY ALL THE WARNINGS AND ALL THE CAUTIONS
INCLUDED IN THE REFERENCED PROCEDURES.

CAUTION: ALWAYS OBEY THE PRECAUTIONS THAT FOLLOW TO KEEP ELECTRICAL

WIRING IN A SATISFACTORY CONDITION (ELECTRICALLY AND MECHANICALLY
SERVICEABLE). WHEN YOU DO MAINTENANCE WORK, REPAIRS OR
MODIFICATIONS, ALWAYS KEEP ELECTRICAL WIRING, COMPONENTS AND
THE WORK AREA AS CLEAN AS POSSIBLE. TO DO THIS:
- PUT PROTECTION, SUCH AS PLASTIC SHEETING, CLOTHS, ETC., AS
NECESSARY ON WIRING AND COMPONENTS.
- REGULARLY REMOVE ALL SHAVINGS, UNWANTED MATERIAL AND
OTHER CONTAMINATION.
THESE PRECAUTIONS WILL DECREASE THE RISK OF CONTAMINATION AND
DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL WIRING INSTALLATION.
IF THERE IS CONTAMINATION, REFER TO Ref. ESPM 20-55-00.
