The influence of mediatization on daily life is evident in modern society

(Ekström et al., 2016). The increasing adoption of media technologies,

globalization, and cultural representation, has had a tremendous effect
on many parts of society (Kellner, 1998). In this essay, I will focus on two
important aspects of my life that have been mediated and present
evidence to back up my claims.

Mediatization is the social integration of media technology into various

aspects of contemporary society, resulting in changes in interpersonal
relationships and ways of involvement (Hjarvard, 2013). The way people
access and exchange information, communicate, and consume media
have all been changed by mediatization (Kaul, 2012). The emergence of
new media outlets, broadcasting platforms, and media outlets that have
taken control of current society is unambiguous proof of this transition.
The development of communication technology and the fusion of many
media outlets have been crucial in influencing public opinion and
advancing social and cultural values.

There are hundreds of definitions of mediatization. Moreover, there’re

two main dimensions of it. First, Together with globalization,
individualization, and commercialization, mediatization can be seen as a
meta-process, influencing how media technologies are integrated into
multiple sectors of modern societies. It has a huge and pervasive impact
on society and culture (Kortti, 2016). This meta-process emphasizes the
increasing significance of media technologies on a variety of elements of
life, emphasizing how they are molding political discourse, promoting
cultural values, and influencing public opinion. Understanding how media
technologies affect lives and reshape how people perceive the world is
dependent on how media and meta-process interact (Carpentier et al.,
2014). Secondly, a key component of mediatization is media logic, which
describes the modes of communication and narrative techniques
employed by the media to convey their messages. In essence, media
logic is a set of rules, strategies, and practices that shape interactions
between the media and the audience (Meyen et al., 2014). All of that, it
was impacted my life a lot in education and business.
As a student, The mediatization processes have had a major effect on
my schooling. When I was in high school, the covid-19 pandemic
affected everything I was unable to physically attend school for more
than a year due to the pandemic's threat, and nothing advanced.
However, because of mediatization, schools have moved from physical
to virtual settings thanks to tools like Zoom and Google Meet. This
greatly facilitated student learning and teacher-student collaboration.
Additionally, interactive whiteboards, iPads, e-books, and other digital
tools that make teaching and learning more effective and pleasant are
available in online classrooms. The research study that e-books make
textbooks more accessible and affordable for students and provide them
with interactive resources (Alsalhi et al., 2020). This made learning from
home more comfortable and encouraged me to take an active role in my
coursework. Other research shows that online classes can increase
flexibility for students and will produce a more comprehensive learning
environment that will give learners a similar learning experience to that in
the classroom. (Popirtac, 2022).
Moving on to the topic of business, as a fragrance seller, my business
has been impacted by the process of mediatization, particularly in the
way the business runs with the rise of e-commerce and online social
media platforms. I can now sell my goods without having to invest in real
showrooms and stores. This adjustment enables me to invest 100% of
my funds in digital advertising and use their media logic. Zalo,
Instagram, and TikTok are effective marketing tools that I may use to
engage with new clients and customers and broaden their geographical
reach, particularly on social media platforms like Facebook. For
instance, I may send a vial of perfume to my customer, or I might tell the
consumer which scents are best for them. Mediatization in business
could increase efficiency while decreasing expenses (Ritter & Pedersen,
2019). Furthermore, business analytics tools and business intelligence
systems like review, and voting are extremely valuable assets that allow
businesses like mine to collect and analyze customer behavior data by
doing surveys or their reactions. By doing this, I will better understand
my consumers' demands and make business-enhancing decisions
(Elbashir et al., 2008).
However, mediatization can also lead to negative impacts. Screen usage
has a deleterious impact on children's development, including attention
issues and cognitive delay (Panjeti-Madan & Ranganathan, 2023).
Similarly, a constant overflow of information and distractions in the office
can impede productivity and decision-making (Orhan et al., 2021).
Furthermore, the move toward online education may result in a digital
gap, strengthening rather than eliminating socioeconomic differences
(Francis & Weller, 2021). Overall, while mediatization has numerous
advantages, it is critical to consider and manage its disadvantages.

In conclusion, the processes of mediatization have fundamentally

changed important facets of my daily life, including my approach to
learning and academics as well as my business operations. While
mediatization has created numerous opportunities, it has also generated
new obstacles. More research on the precise effects of mediatization
across many domains would provide useful insight into how individuals
and societies might maximize advantages while limiting potential
drawbacks.
