Group Activity Regression and Correlation

The group activity document from Pangasinan State University summarizes a regression analysis performed by the group on data relating the demand for air conditioners in the Philippines from 2012 to 2019. The group created a scatter plot of the data in Excel and determined the linear model that best fits the data is f(x) = 55.4880952380952 x − 111051.130952381 with an R2 value of 0.972155312186945. Based on the linear regression, the group concluded there is a strong positive linear relationship between air conditioner demand and year. They also predicted demand in 2020 would be 1,035,000 units.

Follow the instructions below.

1. Form groups of 4-5 members and perform regression analysis on data to develop
a mathematical model that relates two variables. You may find your data on the
internet. Collect numerical data (at least 15 points).

- Demand for air conditioners in the Philippines from 2012 to 2019 (in 1,000 units)

2. Create a scatter plot of your data using Excel.

3. Find the linear model to predict the values of your dependent variable.

2020 = 1,034.76 or 1,035 or 1,000,035 units

4. Make conclusions about the data.

Based on the linear regression and correlation analysis, we can conclude

that there is a strong positive linear relationship between the demand for air
conditioners (1000 units) in the Philippines and the years 2012-2019. The
equation of the line suggests that as the year passes by, the demand for air
conditioners also increases. It was also predicted that on the year 2020, there is
1,035 or 1,000,035 units in the demand for air conditioners in the country.
