• 1926-Department of Psychology in UP was established within the School of Education. Agustin Alonzo was
chairman.

• 1930s-Department of Psychology in UST was established.

• 1932-Sinforoso Padilla organized the Psychological Clinic at UP.

• 1933-Jesus Perpiñan set up the FEU Psychological Clinic.

• 1938-Angel de Blas set up Experimental Psychology Laboratory in UST.

• 1948-Estefania Aldaba-Lim set up the Institute of Human Relations at PWU. • 1954-Joseph Goertz established
Psychology Department at University of San Carlos.

• 1961-Fr. Jaime Bulatao established Department of Psychology and Central Guidance Bureau at Ateneo de
Manila University.

• 1962-Philippine Psychological Corporation was founded. It offered Psychological services and testing.
Psychological Association of the Philippines was founded.

• 1963-PAP held its 1st annual convention, which lead to 1st publication, Symposium on the
Filipino Personality.

• 1968-Philippine Journal of Psychology (official journal of PAP) was published.

• 1970s-Psychology became the most popular undergraduate major.

• 1975-Pambansang Samahan ng Sikolohiyang Pilipino was founded by Virgilio Enriquez. (Father of Filipino
Psychology.

• 1975+-Universities in Visayas and Mindanao established Psychology Department.

• 1982-PAP proposed licensure on Psychology through a bill in Batasang Pambansa.

• 1986-EDSA Revolution. Psychologists play a key role in the new government’s Moral Recovery Program.

• 1990-PAP was among the founding members of Afro-Asian Psychological Association.

• 1992-PAP and 9 other national psychological associations established Asia-Oceania Psychological Association.

• 1992-Virgilio Enriquez published From Colonial to Liberation Psychology. • 1995-Skwelahang Sikolohiya,
association of Psychologists and Educators was founded by Amparo Montemayor-De Asis, Andylyn Simeon and J.
Enrique G. Saplala. Skwelang Sikolohiya participates in advocacy work and researches on incarceration,
reformation and criminal behavior.

• 1998-PAP hosted 4th biannual AAPA conference.

• 2002-PAP confered the title of Outstanding Psychologists and awarded 6 Psychologists.

• 2006-PAP officially becomes a founding member of the Asean Regional Union of Psychological Societies.
Four Traditions which Philippine Psychology is Rooted (Zeus, 1985)

• Academic Scientific Psychology or Akademikong-siyentipikal na Sikolohiya- Western tradition:


follows the tradition of Wilhelm Wundt in 1987 and is essentially the American-oriented Western
Psychology being studied in the Philippines.

UST and mainly focused on what is called “Rational Psychology”.

Psychology is based: indigenous concepts that are studied using indigenous psychological

healing techniques and explains it in an indigenous

• Sikolohiya sa Pilipinas –
kabuuang anyo ng sikolohiya sa kontekstong Pilipino; bunga ng sunod-sunod na kaalamang may
kinalaman sa sikolohiya sa bansang Pilipinas.
Forms of Filipino Psychology (Anyo ng Sikolohiya sa Kontekstong Pilipino)

• Sikolohiya ng Pilipino – bawat teorya ng sinumang nais mag-aral tungkol sa kalikasang sikolohikal ng mga
Pilipino, maging Pilipino o dayuhan ang sinasabing mag-aaral.

• Sikolohiyang Pilipino – sikolohiyang bunga ng karanasan, kaisipan, at


oryentasyong Pilipino.
