Subject MONSOON CURRENTS ARE CONTINUING TO PENETRATE IN SINDH


Pakistan Meteorological Department has informed that the monsoon currents are continuing to
penetrate in Sindh.
Under its influence:
 Dust-thunderstorm/rain with few heavy falls likely in Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Shikarpur,
Kambar Shahdadkot, Dadu, Jamshoro while with isolated heavy falls in Tharparker, Umerkot,
Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Khairpur, Kashmore, Ghotki, Naushahro Feroze, Shaheed Benazirabad,
Matiari, Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal districts &
Karachi division till 24th/25th July with occasional gaps.
Possible impacts:
 Heavy falls may create water logging in low lying areas of Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Shikarpur,
Kambar Shahdadkot, Dadu, Jamshoro districts.

Keeping in view above, it is recommended that concerned Deputy Commissioners/ Chairman


DDMAs and other relevant authorities/ stakeholders may take all necessary mitigation measures. including:
 Establish proactive coordination with Provincial Emergency Operation Center (PEOC) PDMA
Sindh for vigilant monitoring of weather system.
 Ensure arrangement for removal of fallen trees, wires and other loose structures like electric poles,
solar panels etc.
 Ensure cleaning of internal nullahs, drains and choke points.
 Ensure functionality of pumping stations.
 Ensure placement of de-watering pumps and generators across the vulnerable points as needed.
 Establishment of helpline number to facilitate/address the needs of general public at priority basis.
 People may be advised not to park their vehicles near weak structures.
 Stockpile necessary emergency relief/ medicine stores.
 Ensure availability of uninterrupted power supply through intimate coordination with concerned line
departments and provision / availability of standby generators for hospitals.
 Emergency services and ambulances with trained paramedics to remain available round the clock at
the hospitals.
 Ensure coordination with Rescue 1122 Authorities.
 Ensure that the tools and materials needed for quick response and recovery operations, such as
clearing roads and resuming utility services, are readily available.
 Coordinate with concerned departments (NHA, NH&MP and FWO) for issuing necessary alerts to
travelers, especially over long distances to take precautions and avoid over exposure to rainfall.

 Monitor the weather alerts through print and electronic media.


 Travelers and tourist are advised to remain cautious to avoid any untoward situation during the forecast
period.
 Farmers are advised to manage their agricultural activities keeping in view the weather forecast.
 Stay indoor unless absolutely necessary. Keep doors and windows shut and avoid sitting near windows
as rain is often accompanied by strong winds.
 Maintain a distance from power lines or electrical wires. If you notice any loose electric wires in your
area, alert the concerned authorities immediately.
 Avoid touching electrical switches or outlets while it is raining. Do not try using electrical sockets or
outlets outdoors while it is raining.
 Avoid driving in heavy rain because of poor visibility.
 Avoid underpasses, drainage ditches, low-lying areas and areas where water collects.
 Check on family members who are especially at risk from weather hazards: young children, older
adults, and the chronically ill.
 General public is advised to remain watchful & take precautions.
