Cold Stream

The document discusses cold stream thrust reversal systems used in aircraft. It describes how these systems work to redirect bypass air through vanes during landing to produce reverse thrust. It outlines the different types of systems and covers their operation in flight and deployment. Troubleshooting procedures and common issues are listed. Maintenance and overhaul of thrust reverser components is also discussed.

INTRODUCTION

From precision flight controls to aerodynamic nacelle systems

and powerful engine exhaust systems, every detail works to
enhance the airplane’s performance. Thrust reversal systems
are designed to slow the aircraft upon landing.
This bypass air produces reverse
thrust when activated by an air
motor. While the plane is in flight,
the reverse thrust vanes are
FUNCTION blocked by doors that fold back
when the pilot deploys the system.
This blocks the last nozzle and the
cold stream and redirects this air
flow to the vanes.

Corrosion can spread throughout the thrust

reverser assembly and cause extensive
damage.
