AC Coupling With Fronius and Victron (AFR)

The document discusses AC coupling of Fronius inverters with Victron inverters and batteries for off-grid solar power systems. It provides details on frequency-controlled power reduction where the Victron inverter sends a signal to the Fronius inverter via the AC line to reduce power output and prevent overcharging when the battery is full.

AC Coupling with Fronius and Victron (AFR)

26/9/2022
- DC Coupling- Direct connection to storage with PV generator (PV generator, MPPT
charge controller, battery, inverter charger, loads)
- AC Coupling- Direct connection of inverter to PV generator and direct supply of loads
(PV generator, Fronius inverter, battery, inverter charger, loads)
- AC/DC Coupling- Direct connection to storage with PV generator (PV generator, Fronius
Inverter. Battery, Inverter charger, Genset, Loads, Grid, MPPT charge controller)
- Fronius inverter uses AC as its control voltage.
- When the battery is fully charged it’s important that the battery is not overcharged
Fronius and Victron ensures this by victron sending a signal to the Fronius inverter by the
same load line and that ensures that the PV inverter reduces its power output to ensure
that the load gets supplied what it needs and the charging of the battery stops.
- Frequency- controlled power reduction- The frequency is used as signal which is sent by
the victron inverter to the Fronius inverter via the AC line. Once the Fronius inverter
senses the signal or that is the increase in frequency it automatically reduces its feeding
power.
- Four Steps for your system configuration
o Installation – Installation of PV- Generator, Cabling, Commissioning
o Victron- Set-up Victron configuration, battery
o Commissioning- AC Coupling, VE. Bus configuration, Complete Wizards
o Fronius- Supply AC (by Victron). Choose setup MG 50/60 Hz, Commission Data
manager 2.0
- Settings that have to be selected
o Special country setup for off-grid systems
o Setup MG50/MG60 (Depending on the region, Kenya is 60Hz)
o Frequency-watt Characteristics
o Extended voltage and frequency limits
o Fully configuration
- How to choose setup MG50/MG60
o Press 5x second button from the left and type in code 73887
o Choose setup MG 50/ MG 60 and confirm (reboot)
- How to connect to the inverter
o Open Wi-Fi access point on the inverter display
o Connect any smart device with the inverter network
o Open browser- IP address: 192.168.250.181
o Setup wizard starts automatically
- If there are multiple inverters with Fronius data manager 2.0 in one Fronius DATCOM-
Ring, the master can be set via master/slave switch.
