Jawi temple in Indonesia that is known as a syncretic Hindu-Buddhist temple dated from 13th
century in Singasari Kingdom. The temple is actually situated on the eastern slope of Mount Welirang,
Candi Wates Village, Pasuran, East Java. It is approximately 41 kilometers from south of Surabaya. The
temple is actually placed on the main road between Kecamatan Prigen and Pringebukan.
The temple was thought to be a worship place for Hindu-Buddhist. However, the temple actually

The principal monument, in particular, is unique in that was a Shivaite sanctuary crowned with a
Buddhist ornament. It thus portrayed clearly the religious philosophy expounded by Kertanegara. The
shrine further contained two mortuary statues of the king, representing the essence of both religions.

time when the monument had been struck by lightning in 1331. While regretting that the statue had
vanished, it was accepted as a sign of the Buddha’s supreme manifestation, Sunyata that of non-being

A library holds a collection of books and other informational materials for people to read and
study. Libraries used to collect only printed materials, such as books, newspapers, and magazines.
Nowadays they also keep CD-ROMs, sound and video recording, online databases, etc. Today’s library
enables users to access books through the internet. The technology brings advantages to people in
remote areas. They have easy access to books.
The main objectives of a library are to gather, manage, reserve, and provide access to
knowledge and information. They are carefully kept as cultural records that the next generations can
inherit. Thus libraries have an important role to connect the past, present, and future. Libraries ensure
that records are maintained and available for future access, no matter what the formats are.
Squirrels are cute-looking animals. There are around 230 species of them. There are several kinds of
squirrels, such as tree squirrels, ground squirrels, chipmunks, and flying squirrels. They came in different
sizes. The smallest ones are the African pygmy squirrels, which are only 13 cm long. The biggest ones are
the Asian giant squirrels, at almost a meter long.
Most squirrels live in trees, except for ground squirrels. Most of their diet consists of vegetables, but
sometimes they eat insects, too. Squirrels have a habit of keeping seeds, which helps to spread trees and
plants. Ground squirrels hibernate during colder seasons, but tree squirrels do not.

I’m going to tell you about trees. You know, there are big trees around here where we usually
get sheltered.
The part under the ground is the root. This is the part of the tree which anchors the tree in the
soil. Besides roots, we find the trunk and branches where leaves grow. Flowers ad fruits grow on
the branches as well.
Goji berries are dried fruits of two species of the boxthorn-Lyccium and L. chinense. The Lycium genus
belongs to the family Solanaceae, to which tomatoes and potatoes also belong. On a tree, goji berries
hang from branches in stalked clusters of three to six, like little red tubes with rounded ends, up to
four-fifths of an inch long and about half of an inch wide. Each berry contains between ten and sixty
tiny yellow seeds.
The harvested fruit are not found in fresh from outside their area of growth. Virtually all are
dried immediately after harvesting in a careful way to avoid bruising the berries, although the extent
of the drying process may differ between areas. The dried fruit can be cooked or boiled and used in
soups or as flavourings in meat dishes with other herbs.
However, since 2000, there has been a considerable effort on the part of commercial
growers in China, Tibet and some Himalayan regions to publicize the medical properties of goji
berries, notably as source of antioxidants (which are beneficial for inflammations and cardiovascular)
and protection against the infirmities of old age (including several forms of cancer, protein and
vitamin deficiency disorders).
Frost flowers are delicate, beautiful ribbons of ice crystals that form on the lower steams of
a few species of Missouri native plants. Frost flowers occur only in late fall after the first few hard
freezes occur only in late fall after the first few hard freezes and while the ground is still warm. Their
season is brief and they disappear quickly on the day occur, melting like frost when the air warms or
rays of sunlight fall on the delicate structures.
While the plants’ stems are ruptured by the first hard freeze, the root system is still sending
up a plant sap from the warmer ground. The sap pushes through the broken stem and freezes on
contact with the cold air. As more saps move up. It forces the freezing stream of white ice crystals
into ornate, folded ribbons that look like petals, puffs of cotton candy, or snarls of white thread.
Missouri plants are known to produce frost flower including dittany (Cunila origanoides),
stinkweed (Pluchea camphorate is not widespread in Missouri) and white crownbeard (Verbesina
virginica). Scientists don’t know what it is about these species that allow them to produce frost
flowers. Perhaps their root system are more active later in the year than other species, or their stems
rupture in just the right way to force the ribbons of sap. Whatever the reason is, frost flowers only
appear on the stems of a few species.
Butterfly fish is a generally small sized species of marine fish, found in tropical and subtropical
waters, primarily around coral reefs. It is well known for its brightly colored body and elaborate
markings. There are more than 100 different species of butterfly fish distributed throughout the
Atlantic, Indian and Pacific oceans.
The average butterfly fish is fairly small and generally grows to around 4 or 5 inches in length.
Several species, however, are known to grow to 8 inches (20cm) long and a few individuals have been
known to grow to 30 cm in length. It can live for up to 7 years old in the wild.
Butterfly fish is a diurnal animal, which means that it feeds during the day and rests in the coral
during the night. Most species of butterfly fish feed on the plankton in the water, coral and sea
anemones and occasionally snack on small crustaceans.
The fish releases eggs into the water which from part of the plankton. When the eggs hatch,
the baby fish (known as fry) develop armored plates on their bodies to protect them when they are so
vulnerable. As the butterfly fish gets older, these plates disappear.
Butterfly fish is considered to be an endangered animal mainly as the population has been
threatened due the water pollution and habitat loss. The destruction of coral reefs occurs mainly from
boats, and without their coral habitats, the fish are difficult to survive as they have less food and are
also more exposed to predators.

Mudslides occur when a large amount of water causes the rapid erosion of soil on a steep
slope. A period of intense rainfall can trigger a mudslide, as the great volume of water mixes with
soil and causes it to liquefy and move downhill.
A mudslide can vary from very watery mud to thick mud with tons of debris, including large
boulders, trees and even cars of houses. Mudslides are responsible for many deaths and millions of
dollars in property damage every year.
Mudslides usually contain a lot of water and thus act more like a flood than a landslide.
Mudslides have been known to rush downhill at speeds up to 50 miles per hour, laying waste to
everything in the way.
When discussing mudslides, experts will use certain special terms, including main scrap,
shelves and the “toe”. The main scarp is the original area where the mudslide begins. The “toe”, on
the other hand, is the last area affected by the mudslide. Shelves are areas where a mudslide’s path
crosses hill or natural drops, creating large dips. A large mudslide can have multiple shelves.
Mudslides often occur in areas with steep slopes or at the bottom of slopes or canyons.
Mountainous areas that have been altered to build homes and roads are often prone to mudslides.
When human actions or natural events, such as wildfires, increase erosion in an area, mudslides can
be a natural result.
Plants that trap insects for food are called carnivorous plants.
There are 550 species living in places from the high peaks of New Zealand to the swamps of
Carolina. The butterwort gets name because it leaves ooze drops contain the plant’s digestive juice.
The sundew can tell the difference between flesh and other substances and only reacts to flesh. The
Sundew’s leaves are covered in tentacles that ooze a sticky substance called mucilage. The sundew
wraps up its victims in its tentacles and suffocates them in slime in under ten seconds. A Venus fly-
trap’s will only shut if touched at least twice in 20 seconds.
Insects are lured on to many carnivorous plants by sweet-tasting nectar—or the smell of rotting
meat. The juice of a pitcher plant will dissolve a chunk of Steak to nothing in a few days. The bladders
of bladderworts were thought to be air sacs to keep the plant afloat. In fact, they are tiny traps for
water insects. Carnivorous plants live in places where they cannot obtain nitrogen from the soil.
32. “In fact, they are tiny traps for water insects. Carnivorous plants live in place where they cannot
nitrogen from the soil.”
What can we infer from the sentences?
A. The plants get nitrogen from water.
B. The plants do not need nitrogen at all.

When I was still in junior high school, I joined a softball competition in Virginia Beach.
The competition overjoyed me since this was the first time I participated in a competition
on a beach. We went there by plane. I was late to book my ticket, so I got different flight
schedule with the team.
As usual, I didn’t have any plan ahead, so I spent the night before my flight for
packing. My family was about to move to a new house and everything was kind of a mess
in my house. I just took a random bag from one of the moving boxes.
The next morning at the airport, I put my backpack on the conveyor belt and stepped
through the gate and security got me to step out of the line. Somehow, a box cutter had
been found in the bag. I contacted my mother for help. She had to call a family friend
who worked at the airport to go in and straighten things out. After several hours, I was
declared not a threat. But consequently I missed my flight.
Let me tell you my true story. It happened 15 years ago. We are very harmonious family. My dad, my
mom, my younger sister, and of course ne lived peacefully. I was typically a spoiled child. What made me
so upset was my mom never permitted me to play outside. I could see kids running around, playing outside
with friends, and having fun. But, I just stayed at home and studied.
My parents made a living with their own business. It was a small restaurant. Time passed by, I realized
the situation. The rent got more expensive and business slowed down. My mom and I had to go help out
once in a while. Actually I enjoyed it. Answering calls, taking orders, and doing job like a worker did. One
day, a few customers asked about my age. When they knew I was just about ten years old, they
complimented me for doing such a good job and being so smart. I felt happy that knew how to do
something that others at my age did not.

My classmate and I just have passed our semester test on the last July 2017, then we decided to
spend our holiday at Tanjung Raya Beach. We went there by car. It took a long time to go there because
that beach was about 124 kilometers from Bandar Lampung. The trip made us tired, but it all paid when
we saw the beach. The beach is the most beautiful beach I have ever seen.
Tanjung Raya beach was a new tourism beach. It was opened about a month ago, so the beach was
still natural and clean. It has not many visitors. The wave was not too high, so we can safely. We really
enjoyed swimming and playing on the beach. We also competed to make beautiful sand castles.
I found some small shops there. Those shops were owned by local people. They sold food, beverages,
clothes, souvenirs, and many more. We bought some snacks and juices to get our energy back because
we still wanted to play and enjoy the sunset. Finally, we decided to go home at 7 p.m. after we ate our
dinner. We totally exhausted but we were so happy and really enjoyed our time at the beach. I will also
tell this experience to my family, so they will be attracted to visit there.

It has been 5 years when I was twenty five years old in 2018, my oldest sister bought a car. I wanted to
know how to drive her car. I persuaded her to teach me to drive. But, she refused my request. She promised
that she would teach me to drive about three or four years later.
I kept whimpering to my sister for teaching me how to drive. Finally, she taught me to drive. Three
days later, my sister and I went to a field. My sister was very patient to give me some directions. I was very
nervous because that was my first time to drive.
A week later, my family visited my grandmother in Salatiga, about 4 hours from our home. I was alone
at home. So, I had an opportunity to drive. I drove about 6 km. then, I got nervous and lost my control. I
crashed the wall because the street was narrow.
After that I called my sister to tell her about the accident. I imagined that my sister would be angry.

Amelia Earhart was born in Atchison, Kansas, on 24 July 1897. In those days, airplanes were not
common. Earhart was 12 years old before she ever saw an airplane, and she did not take her first flight
until 1920. Amelia Earhart was so thrilled by he first airplane ride that the quickly began to take flying
lessons.
Earhart got her U.S. flying license in December 1921, and by October 1922, she set an altitude
record for women of 14.000 feet. In 1923, Earhart received her international pilot’s license-only the
16th woman to do so. In 1928, she was invited to become the first woman passenger to cross the Atlantic
Ocean in a plane. Earhart’s first trip across the Atlantic took more than 20 hours. After that flight, she
became a media sensation. Her next goal was to achieve a transatlantic crossing alone. In 1932, Earhart
became the first woman to make a Solo nonstop flight across the Atlantic.
She decided that her next trip would be to fly around the world. In June 1937, she went to Miami
and began the flight with Noonan as her navigator. She left behind important communication and
navigation instruments, perhaps to make room for additional fuel for the long flight. They made it to
New Guinea in 21 days and then departed for a tiny island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Their last
communication was on 2 July 1937. They were never heard from again. Neither the plane nor Earhart
nor Noonan were ever found. No one knows for sure what happened, but many people believe they
got lost and simply ran out fuel and died.
