Information Literacy Standards

I have taught kindergarten for six years at Bowdon Elementary School. As I was reading over the Information Literacy Standards, I did not feel that many of them would be applicable to kindergarten students. However, lessons I taught during my student teaching and also assignments created for other MEDT classes provide good examples of lesson activities demonstrating students using Information Literacy Standards. I was also able find several lesson activities on the GA frameworks that were applicable to this assignment. This assignment was very interesting and challenging to me since the majority of my classroom experience is in kindergarten, but I know that one day I may be able to use these activities when I am a media specialist.

As part of the school wide plan, Pennies for Haiti and Beyond students will research and create various solar projects such as solar cookers, water distiller, and solar collectors. All of the projects will be displayed at the Solar Science Fair and students will stand beside their projects and explain the necessity of such things in Haiti. K-5th students collected money for the school wide program Pennies for Haiti and Beyond. Each grade designed promotional fliers to be sent home and distributed throughout the community to encourage donations. They tracked money earned versus the goal. Students will be placed in groups and be assigned one (twelve possible) ancient civilization to research.
