1 Introduction
In this assignment I will be reflecting on a task I have done at my work using Graham Gibbs
Reflective circle model. The guidelines provided by this model allow to draw better conclusions on
what to improve by structuring the experience. The model has five steps and it follow as:
2 Description
Was tasked by supervisor to manufacture and install containment for cables going to heating units
high above the ground. It required to work at heights and use MWEP which also requires writing
down safe plan of action for this job and permit to use the MEWP. The work must be done in
organized manner and clean as the site was pharmaceutical plant. After organizing the work and
materials I begin to work but made a mistake at the end about exact location of which side of the
units the cable goes inside of them which resulted in wasted time and materials.
3 Feelings
At the beginning I felt confident finishing this job myself as I helped doing something very similar
with qualified co-worker not too long ago. I prepared the paperwork before so I didn’t assume the
whole job will be difficult to begin with. I lost that confidence when I was at the end of the task
realizing my mistake. Shocked and embarrassed at myself to fail not to ask about something
important like exact location for cable entrance. Took a minute to accept the situation and started
preparing myself mentally to confront my supervisor to ask for more details.
4 Evaluation
Everything went well for the beginning. I got permit required and prepared all materials needed for
the job. The problems start to appear when I start to install the containment on the wall. It appeared
the cable entrance for the units wasn’t in the same place as the work I done before and that
required for me to go different way with the pipe but there was no good place for any saddles for it
so I didn’t know how to finish the job. I had to remove the previously installed pipe and throw it
away. I ended up with asking the supervisor for help and more information on how to finish it
properly, on top of apologising for wasted time
5 Analysis
The whole problem wouldn’t arise if I wasn’t overconfident. The supervisor wouldn’t have to repeat
himself about the task and with few more questions from my side no mistakes would be made. I was
too confident and rushed which ended up disappointing myself.
6 Conclusion
After analysing and re-thinking the situation with the help of the model the conclusions are easy to
draw. The major factor was overconfidence which led to not having enough information about the
task itself to finish it properly. Asking more questions would save me from wasting time and
materials. Approaching every task differently would be the best way to avoid future mistakes even if
I have done very similar job before. Having a set of question for each job would be also good way to
go about it which would result in getting all information required to not make mistakes.
7 Action Plan
If I had being tasked the same the same job, I would:
