The SS 316 Pipe Fittings and the Valves shall be designed for withstanding High Pressure & Temperature and
Vibration Impulses for use in various services like Air, Natural Gas, Crude Oil and Petroleum by products. The
Fittings and the Valves must be capable of transporting pressurized Liquid/ Gas at low and high Temperature
without any leakage or failure and shall be able to withstand axial and lateral forces within the Industrial
Piping Installations. All the parts of the Fittings shall be concentric as per the Piping size and capable of self-
alignment when assembled. The Fittings and the Valves shall not significantly reduce the flow area and shall
not weaken the Tube Wall.
Better materials are acceptable subjected to approval of ONGC. Change in material should be conveyed to
ONGC with supporting documents.
Samples for testing shall be picked up from final finished complete lot and the sample size shall be as per the
testing procedure.
2.1 Pipe Fittings
I. The entire bend Pipe Fittings shall be of Hexagonally Forged SS316 in conformation to ASME-SA-182 / ASTM A-
182.
II. All the straight Pipe Fittings shall be of SS316 Bar Stock in conformation to ASME –SA-479 / ASTM A276.
III. Pipe threads shall be NPT as per ASME B1.20.1 / ANSI B1.20.1.
IV. NPT threads shall be of uniform thread profile.
V. All the exposed thread shall be protected from damage.
VI. Working pressure should be calculated as per pressure Piping Code ASME B.31.3./ ANSI B.31.1 power piping
2.2 Testing:
Following Tests shall be witnessed by ONGC quality assurance department or by an approved TPI at ONGC
cost with a sample size of 10 no’s picked at random from different sizes from the ordered quantity and report
shall be submitted along with the supply.
a) Visual Examination: Fittings shall be checked for overall finish, workmanship and dimension. Threads shall be
checked with Ring/Plug step gauge (with Min. / Max. limits).
b) Pneumatic pressure test: Pneumatic pressure test is to be conducted at 3,600 psi for 05 minutes. No bubbling
is allowed.
c) Hydrostatic pressure test: After the completion of Pneumatic Pressure Test, the Loop shall be pressurized to
5,000 PSI by Hydraulic / Hydrostatic Media and shall be kept for 05 minutes. No leakage shall be allowed (similar
to Bubble Tight Shut Off).
d) All the above Tests shall be carried out at the Manufacturer’s premises for which all the relevant facilities shall
be available with the Manufacturer except for Material Test for which sample shall be given to the Govt.
approved Test Laboratory, cost for the testing of the same shall be borne by the bidder. Bidder should provide
copies of all codes referred above at the time of inspection and testing for reference.
Inspection shall be done by ONGC QAD or by any ONGC approved TPI
