Performance Task 1 Science12 C

1. The document describes a classroom activity where students will measure and record sound intensity levels of various sound sources using a decibel meter. 2. In groups, students will create presentations analyzing their measurements and demonstrating different sound intensity levels through graphs, visuals, and audio recordings. 3. By completing the activity, students aim to enhance their understanding of sound intensity levels and how they relate to daily life, as well as to develop observation, critical thinking, and communication skills.

Sound is an important aspect of our daily lives. It is all around us, whether we notice it or not, and
it plays a significant role in communication, entertainment, and even in keeping us safe. Understanding
sound and its properties is essential in many fields, such as music, engineering, and medicine.
One of the most important properties of sound is its intensity level, which is measured in decibels
(dB). The sound intensity level is a measure of the amount of sound energy that reaches our ears, and it
determines how loud or soft a sound is. The higher the intensity level, the louder the sound.
In this activity, we will focus on exploring the different sound intensity levels in real-life situations.
By doing so, we aim to enhance students' understanding of sound intensity levels and how they relate to
the world around us. Through this activity, students will develop their observation and critical thinking
skills, as well as their ability to communicate their ideas and findings effectively. By the end of this activity,
students will gain a better understanding of the properties of sound, particularly sound intensity, and sound
intensity level, and how they are relevant to our daily lives.

Decibel (dB) meter (download any application Smartphone or camera with video and photo
on your smartphone) capabilities
Various sound sources (e.g., musical Notebook or any paper for documenting
instruments, speakers, voice) observations
Computer or tablet with presentation software

ESTIM A TED TIM E: Take-home activity.

PR OC ED U R E:
1. Each group, consisting of four (4) to five (5) members, will use the dB meter to measure the sound
intensity level of various sound sources. They should record their measurements in a chart or table.
2. Using the recorded data, students will create a presentation that includes visual representations of
the different sound intensity levels. This can be done through graphs or other creative means.
3. Students should also create an audio recording that demonstrates the different sound intensity
levels. This can be done by recording the different sound sources at different intensities and playing
them back in the presentation.
4. Each group will create a presentation using all the observations, computations, recorded audio files,
and the corresponding sound intensity levels in dB. The presentation should include the following:
a. Slide 1: Title slide

Note: The number of slides may vary depending on the group's preference and the amount of information
they wish to include in each slide. It is important to remember to keep the presentation clear, concise, and
engaging for the audience.
