Unmanned and Smart

Unmanned systems and manned-unmanned teaming have significant advantages over traditional manned systems alone. They can reduce costs by 10% while requiring fewer training hours, increase survivability by performing dangerous tasks, and allow for more precise targeting with increased lethality and reduced collateral damage. Early experiments with unmanned systems date back to the 1920s, but they have increasingly been used in modern conflicts to provide reconnaissance and combat capabilities in a cost effective and less risky manner for manned assets. Both the US and China are developing programs that pair advanced fighter jets like the F-35 and J-20 with loyal swarms of drones to multiply their effectiveness.
