Broadcast Programming
Broadcast Programming
The examples of this obviously are shown until today’s generation. Bank
tellers provide their service to their client or account holders, travel agents
provide a service for people wishing to go on vacation or with the like and
with the use of this technology we have now a structure to perform these
tasks extraordinarily.
This has a major role in spreading communication widely and as quickly
as possible. With network programming, things became substantially useful
and can be grasp easily with just a set of rules and command.
The Golden Age of Radio is also known as (OTR) or the old-time radio
which was determined in the United States. At the time, radio is the
dominant electronic home entertainment medium and the era when the birth
of commercial radio broadcast began. During this period, people normally
tuned in to their favorite radio programs.
Since radio is the first broadcast medium, the operators of this radio
programs came up with ideas on how they will be able to keep and maximize
the number of their audience. Such radio programs were created in the early
1920s that brought people together. Families gathered and listened to their
favorite radio programs until such time radio was superseded by television in
1950s.
Just like any other evolution process, technology at the time is
continuously growing and developing together with a variety of new
entertainment medium (television) that came with new entertainment
formats and genres setting a new trend and a different way to broadcast and
reach its audience.
Radio was also used by advertising agencies, and this is where the idea
of understanding the power of communication through this medium will
surely change the world. Advertisement was widely known, and radio was
the platform that helped fully establish the advertising industry.
THE TELEVISION GOLDEN AGE OF DRAMAS
The Golden Age of television was established around early 1940s to late
1950s. This is the era where live television production was known and was
determined as the premiere mass medium. Different genres and shows were
produced at that time and there were various issues along the way.
The early days of television introduced these hour-long anthology drama
series which evidently became so popular during that time. These early
television broadcasts were limited to live or filmed productions. This is also
the era where the evolution high-culture drama was set on television. One of
the reasons believed to be the cause of this trend is that networks had this
"cultural uplifting" idea that needs to be brought up to people.
As the new medium was introduced, another development on the
technology came and these were the videotapes. Though some of the shows
and programs were already recorded and taped, still the broadcast on
television was not fully affected. This high culture drama programming
dominated commercial network television programming in the 1950s.
Television introduced a lot of innovative programming concepts and put
these brilliant ideas into the mainstream.
Understanding and learning the medium will help define strategically the
ways on how to keep track of the trends that changes the broadcasting
industry.
With the rapid audience shift and division from radio to television,
staying relevant in broadcasting may be challenging. These things also
evolve and transform depending on what's needed by its audiences. With
technology expanding, people needed to make a way to keep everything in
place and to ensure that these mediums don't die.
The demand of the world continues to change as radio and tv continue to
develop ways to adapt. As part of this change, a set of programming and
cycle is essentially needed to make things work. These brought networks to
come up with ideas in a variety of programs to service their growing number
of audiences. Thus, the trend that is based on the target audience takes
place. Generally, these networks and broadcasters take a lot of consideration
to produce these programming that will both give an advantage to people
and the business.
It is important that the needs of the audience and their expectations are
set and given. This may be a challenge to all broadcasters may it be in
television or radio. Presenting the program in a creative, compelling and
easily digested way would hold the viewer no matter what the challenge of
the platform is facing.
Keeping the broadcast style consistent and unique will have a huge
impact. One of programming strategies used is branding. Simple elements
like fonts, style colors and labels or any elements of building visuals can be
generally a foundation to keep the consistency of the broadcast and how the
viewers will recognize you.
All networks need to fill their airtime with programming. So, another
programming strategy is scheduling. This sets a specific time as to when a
program should be broadcast. This involves planning a program line up to
maximize viewership. Networks determine a programming strategy by
considering different factors such as target audience, the demographics for
the programming.
The audience flow, to keep the viewers tuned in from one show to next,
the advertiser appeal, promotions for the program, production costs of a
program, type of program, viewer ratings, and the competitive landscape
during any time of the day.
