“What is a position paper? It is a kind of academic writing in which the writer researches a controversial issue and writes a paper
explaining his/her stand or viewpoint on it. It is either you agree or disagree or you are in favor or not in favor in a particular issue or
topic and is not only choosing a particular stand but you also have to state or include in your paper the reasons why you agree or
disagree.

“A position paper is an essay in which you present to readers your position on an issue and then give well-researched arguments to help
to support your position. In other words, you agree or disagree on a certain topic or issue you have to support it with evidences. This
means that your reasons should be basically based on fact.”

“In other words, a position paper describes a position on an issue and the rationale for that position. The main purpose of writing a
position paper is to generate support on an issue. It is based on facts that provide a solid foundation for an argument.”

“Here are the steps in writing a position paper,


1. Choose a topic for your paper,
2. Conduct research,
3. Challenge your own topic,
4. Collect supporting evidences and
5. Create an outline.”

1. Use evidence to support your position such as statistical evidence or dates and events;
2. Validate your position with authoritative references or primary source quotations.
3. Examine the strengths and weaknesses of your position.
4. Evaluate possible solutions and suggest courses of action.
