Try your best to answer the questions that follow.

Case 1. Jose is a very diligent student who is now in Grade 10. He always makes it to the top 10
of the whole batch. He feels confident that when he graduates in March, he will be able to
bring home a medal of distinction for being an outstanding student. He sincerely wishes to earn
his merit to be able to show his gratitude to his parents. He was at the library one day when
one of his classmates, Daniel, whispered, “Jose, Ma’am Dela Cruz is looking for you. She is
inside our classroom.”

In response, Jose picked up his things and quickly went to the classroom. It was almost
dismissal time and because the other students were practicing for some special number, no
student was expected in the classroom. Jose opened the door and took a peep inside. He was
expecting to see their class adviser, but she was not there. Instead, he saw some of his
classmates. Somebody held Jose in his arms, another one held him by the waist. Then, another
classmate who seemed to be the leader of the group said, “Jose, join us in our fraternity
group.” Jose shook his head. He said aloud, “No, I don’t want to.” But as soon as he said that,
somebody punched him in the stomach. He received more punches, and then, the leader urged
once more, “Join our group, and we’ll promise that you will become our leader.”

Jose’s ordeal stopped only when somebody said softly and clearly, “Somebody is coming.” It
was their teacher, Ma’am Dela Cruz. She was surprised to see the students inside the room. She
asked, “What’s this?” The students looked at each other. Then, they pointed at Jose and said,
“Ma’am, he asked us to join him inside the room.”

The teacher looked at Jose, and remarked, “Why, Jose! I am surprised. You know that students
are not allowed inside the classroom when there are no classes. Why are you here?”

1. Evaluate the action of the students based on the following elements.

a. the act
The act of the students is an example of human acts since they know what they are doing and
they have done it consciously and freely, that they actually planned it and take the blame on
Jose. The student's actions show violence and ignorance. The violence is when they already hurt
Jose physically. And the ignorance is that they already knew the consequence of it, but they still
did it.

b. the motive
The motive here in the case 1 is Daniel and his friends wants to build a fraternity and they
wanted to become their leader. Jose didn't agree with them so they punch Jose's stomach, so
the motive here in case 1 is to make Jose look bad because he will be the leader of their frat so
he won't get the outstanding student medal.

c. the circumstances
There are many circumstances in the first case that relevant to the situation happened. First is
that when Jose was in the library and someone said or whispered that his teacher ma'am Dela
Cruz is looking for him follow what the person said without hesitating. Next is that Jose as a
diligent student he thinks that it is true even though he know that student are not allowed
inside the classroom that day. Lastly is when he decided to peep inside the classroom and find
other students and grab him quickly. As a result of these circumstances these boys punched
Jose after declining them to join in there fraternity group and when ma'am Dela Cruz saw them
the boys immediately framed up Jose pointing him as a leader of fraternity in the school and
their teacher feels disappointed on what she saw without knowing the truth.

2. How would you assess what the students had done?

For me the students have done is sad because they should learn how to accept the "no" answer
of Jose and they should not choose violence over acceptance to the decision of Jose had made
because they are all students. Jose know that joining in a fraternity is illegal activity in the
school. The student's actions were reprehensible since they not only injured and humiliated
Jose but also defamed him. The same goes for the teacher they lied to. As a result of forcing
Jose to join their fraternity even if he doesn't want to, I believe the students' acts, particularly in
light of human rights, constitute disobedience. Even after making Jose their leader, they
couldn't accept that he wasn't interested in joining, so they lied about Jose in front of their
teacher. They deserve to have a punishment like suspending them and call their parents to
inform them of what their child do to Jose. Also giving them a time to say sorry on what they
have done with Jose.

3. If you were the teacher, would you readily believe that Jose was at fault?
If I am the teacher which is Ma'am Dela Cruz I will not easily believe that Jose was at fault why?
Because believing easily on what other students said without knowing the truth or the whole
story of the other opposition I will not show any disappointment easily to Jose. I will talk to
them privately and separately to know the alibis of Jose and other students. As a teacher we
should know first the whole story in any situation because we don't know sometimes who is
saying the truth or not. It is wrong to accuse, especially when you have no evidence that the
student's accusations against him are true. And what should be done in that situation is to ask
both Jose and the students to be given the right to defend themselves. Moreover, you are a
teacher that the students look up to. I would not immediately believe that this was Jose's fault
because I already knew that Jose was a good student. He studies hard so he is always in the top
10 of his class, He is also persistent in getting an award to show his gratitude to his parents. As a
future teacher the first thing we should do if we can encounter this kind of scenario soon, we
should gather them all and let talk to them properly and ask what really happened. Its not
because they said that Jose is guilty, he is the one who should be blamed, find out the truth first
rather than immediately believe in the story of others. That's why you became a teacher to
listen to the grievances of every children that you teach.
4. If you were Jose, how would you react to what your classmates had done?
If I were Jose, I would be mad at them because they would beat me and force me to join their
fraternity group. Additionally because my classmates lied to my teacher even though I didn't
like it. I will tell and explain what really happened that I was just a victim and his thoughts and
assumptions about me were wrong because It was just a frame up. I’ll be mad for framing me
that I am the leader of fraternity and treating me like a punching bag just because of not
accepting or declining on what they want me to do for them. I will feel upset and pitied because
I am aware that at such times, people go through difficult times in life and only find relief
through misery and stubbornness. I would be upset because while knowing what they were
doing was wrong, they continued to do it. But even if I'm confident I didn't harm them, I'll still
forgive them since it's difficult to live with someone you hate. I don't do anything bad to them
but why would they do that to me? I will feel bad also because they hurt me but I can't do
anything to defend myself.

Case 2. Hydee had already been absent for five days. Wondering what could have happened to
her, her friends decided to visit herthe following day, which was a Saturday. Two classmates,
Sheenel and Hannah, came early. They were supposed to meet at the school gate. They waited
for about thirty minutes for their three other companions. Ynah, Kaye, and Jas. Hurriedly, they
took a ride to get to Hydee’s residence.

They knocked at the door of Hydee’s house. When the door opened, a man in his fifties
appeared and roughly asked, “Who are you? What do you want?” The friends were startled.
They had not expected a brusque interrogation. Sheenel got the courage to say “We are
Hydee’s classmates, sir. We just wanted to visit her.”
“Hydee is not here!” The man said aloud and then banged the door. The girls hurriedly left the
place, almost fearful, and very much confused. Who was that? What would they do?

1. Evaluate the action of Hydee’s friends based on the following elements.

a. the act
Hydee's friend is an example of a human act, but in a good way, since they feel the need to do
as a good friend would, to handle the situation and arrange their visitation plans in order to
learn about their friend's condition. That situation shows the will, actions, and thoughts of
Haydee's friend. They want to know what is happening to Haydee, but unfortunately, they feel
fear for the man who shouts at them when they ask where she is.

b. the motive
The motive here in case 2 is to check Hydee's condition because she has been absent for five
days and for them to find out the reason for her absence. Her friends were concerned about
her situation at their house so they visited Hydeei to talk to her in case she was going through
something personal.
C. the circumstances
The first circumstances happened is that when Hydee is being absent for 5 consecutive days
without telling to her friends what happen to her, that's the time that Hydee's friends are
worrying for her. Next is that when Hydee's friends decided to visit her but instead they being
interrogated by someone who they didn't know and being rude to them and that day they
didn't know what to do they are fearful and confused because there is someone who is not
familiar inside of their friends house. These are the circumstances happen so Hydee's friends
think what they should do to find their friend.

3. If you were one of Hydee’’s friends, what thoughts would probably come to your mind
about Hydee?
If I were one of Hydee's friend I will think that maybe there is something happen to Hydee i am
not think this in a negative way because we don't know what truly happens. There is something
going on in Hydee's house because if she is honest to her friends she will not gonna lie or she
will update her friends what happen to her in those 5 consecutive days of being absent. I would
think that Hydee was experiencing abuse from the man they talked to because just by the tone
of his speech and actions, it was obvious to me that he has a bad attitude. I also think that
Hydee is locked up so he can't go to school. At that moment only that would enter my mind
that is why Hydee can't go to school. Honestly I would think also that maybe she has sick or she
had an illness that's why she was absent for so long. I will also think that she has a problem that
too personally that's why she is not always present in our class.
Especially since she was absent for five days and when we went to their house, the man gave an
angry answer. Maybe she has a family problem. That should be reason enough to find a way to
find out why she is absent.
4. If you were Hydee’s true friend, how would you try to help her if indeed she was in
trouble?
If she is truly in danger or in trouble we, her friends will seek for her parents or authority to
help us find, investigate who is the person inside of our friend's house and know what
happened to our dearest friend. That's the only thing that we can do for her as Hydee's friends,
helping her, giving informations to the authority to the things that can possibly lead us to find
her. I will help her by asking my teacher for help and I will tell them that I think there is
something wrong with Hydee that is why she is not going to school because when we visited
Hydee's house, a man with a bad attitude came up to us and if he spoke, he was hostile. We
also know that the authorities are the only ones who can help Hydee this time because they are
the ones who know when it comes to a case like this. I believe that true friends will never leave
you even when you need them the most, As a true friend of hydee I will come to her house and
I'm going to deal with the man who has mentioned in the case. If the man doesn't show Hydee
then I will ask for a help of the school guidance before asking help for the police, and if the man
shouted at me, I'd do my best to find out where she was by asking my teacher to help me find
the parents of Hydee so if ever something bad happens, I have an elderly companion to advise
me on what should I do.
