About The Institution of Engineers (India)
The Institution of Engineers (India) or IEI is the largest multidisciplinary professional body that encompasses 15
engineering disciplines and gives engineers a global platform for sharing professional interest. IEI has membership
strength of above 0.8 million. Established in 1920, with its headquarter at 8 Gokhale Road, Kolkata-700020, IEI has

Nagpur Local Centre, IEI
Nagpur Local Centre is more than 75 years old, located at North Ambazari Road, Nagpur having a metro station on its
name. Premises of NLC is spread with beautiful garden and Bharat Ratna Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya’s Statue on the
front side of building. It is having excellent infrastructure facilities for Conferences, Seminars, Workshops, Exhibitions
and technical activities. The centre has 2 guest rooms with 1 no. Single Bed Non AC and 1 no. Double Bed AC for IE(I)
Members. IE(I), Nagpur Local Centre has a library having more than 6000 Technical Books, 21 Periodicals & Technical
Journals of various disciplines of engineering and other Magazines. Its also have a guidance centre for students &
technicians, as well as good teaching & training facility for AMIE students with well-equipped classrooms. Examination of
Section A and Section B of the Institution of Engineers (India) are held twice in a year (Winter exam and Summer Exam).
The Institution of Engineers (India), Nagpur Local Centre, is having more than 3000 professional members attached to
it and is one of the most vibrant Centres of IEI.
Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur
The Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur is an Institute of National Importance established by
an Act of Parliament, National Institute of Technology Act 2012, No. 28 of 2012 in continuation of Principal Act (29 of
2007). It is located in the heart of Nagpur city on sprawling campus of 214 acres. The Institute enjoys a prestigious
position in the country, especially in Central India, and is recognized as a pace-setting institute for other educational
institutions in the region. The Institute runs 9 UG and 21 PG courses apart from Ph.D. programs in the area of
Engineering, Architecture and Science.
VNIT host the V R Jamdar Siemens Center of Excellence (VRJSCOE), established in 2020, operates with a primary focus
on creating a robust technical education eco-system through it’s experience in industrial products and services. The CoE
established in collaboration with Siemens and 3D Engineering Automation LLP is equipped with software and hardware
necessary for Industry 4.0 and Digitalization. The infrastructure is spanned over 11 state of the art laboratories. Various
courses of different durations are offered at VRJSCOE. Aspirants can opt for online / offline/ mix mode of learning.
Remote access to software as well as hardware can be given for online courses.
In 2022 VNIT Nagpur has been ranked 32 by NIRF under the Engineering Category by the NIRF - Ranked 68 by NIRF
under the Overall Category.
Department of Mechanical Engineering at VNIT is the oldest department started from the inception of the institute
(1960). The Department has one UG program, three PG programs. The department also offers the PhD program. The
department is devoted to quality teaching, outstanding research and development activities with its highly qualified
faculty members. Department has shown significant contribution in research in the domains like bio-medical engineering,
CFD, robotics, solar energy and advanced machining. The department handles research projects funded by various
agencies having total outlay of 10 Crores. Three technologies have been successfully transferred to industries.
About Nagpur City
Nagpur is known as Maharashtra’s second capital. In the early half of the 18th century, a leader of the Gond tribes
named Bhakt Buland founded the city. “Nagpur City” is located precisely in the heart of India, with the Zero Mile Marker
indicating the country’s geographical centre. Nagpur is well-renowned for its oranges and is also known as Maharashtra’s
Tiger Land. Nagpur is known as the “Orange City” and is a popular tourist destination in Maharashtra. Nagpur has a

number of tourist attractions. These include the Deekshabhoomi, Swami Narayana Temple, Dragon Palace Temple,
Seminary Hills, and the Maharaj Baug Zoo, International Zoo, and the World’s largest Musical Fountain, among others.
Tadoba Reserve Forests, Ramtek, Sewagram Ashram, Pench & Kanha Reserve Forests, and so forth. During September
Nagpur has pleasant atmosphere with min max temperature between 20 to 30 °C. The city is well connected by rail and
international airport, as well as a 25-kilometer metro line that connects main city cores.
Theme and Sub-Theme of the Convention
The theme of the convention is Emerging Trends and Developments in Smart Manufacturing, Renewable
Energy and Mechanical Systems Diagnostics/ Design.
The manufacturing industry is undergoing a significant transformation with the advent of new technologies and
innovations. Some of the major emerging trends in the manufacturing industry include:
Industrial Automation: Industrial automation involves using advanced technologies such as robotics, sensors, and
artificial intelligence to automate manufacturing processes. By automating repetitive and labor-intensive tasks, industrial
automation can improve productivity, reduce labor costs, and enhance the quality of products.
Smart Factories: Smart factories are manufacturing facilities that leverage the power of the Internet of Things (IoT),
cloud computing, and big data analytics to optimize production processes. By collecting and analyzing data in real-time,
smart factories can optimize production schedules, reduce downtime, and improve product quality.
Additive Manufacturing: Additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, is a revolutionary manufacturing process
that involves creating complex geometries and designs using layer-by-layer printing. Additive manufacturing can reduce
waste, improve product customization, and lower production costs.
Artificial Intelligence (AI): AI is playing an increasingly important role in manufacturing by enabling machines to
learn from data, make predictions, and optimize processes. AI-powered systems can improve product quality, reduce
downtime, and enhance productivity.
Renewable Energy: Renewable energy refers to energy that is derived from renewable or sustainable resources, such
as solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, and biomass. Renewable energy sources are considered to be more sustainable and
environmentally friendly than traditional fossil fuels, which contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution.
Mechanical Systems Diagnostics/Design: Mechanical systems diagnostics and design refer to the process of
analyzing, evaluating, and optimizing mechanical systems to ensure that they are functioning efficiently, effectively, and
safely. Mechanical system diagnostics involves the use of various techniques such as measurements, inspections, and
testing to identify issues or problems within mechanical systems. The process involves analyzing the performance data
of a mechanical system, identifying areas that require improvement, and developing solutions to address the issues
identified. Mechanical system design, on the other hand, involves the creation of new mechanical systems or the
modification of existing ones. This process typically involves the use of computer-aided design (CAD) software, which
enables designers to create and simulate complex mechanical systems before they are built. The design processtypically
involves defining the requirements and specifications of the mechanical system, developing design concepts, and
evaluating them to determine the most suitable design for the intended purpose.
Industry 4.0/5.0: It is a concept that builds upon the previous industrial revolutions and takes into account the
advancements in technology and automation. While there is no universally accepted definition for Industry 5.0, it is
generally seen as the next phase of industrial development that combines human intelligence with advanced technologies
to create a more collaborative and inclusive work environment. It aims to address the limitations and challenges posed
by Industry 4.0, which focused primarily on automation and machine-to-machine communication. It recognizes the
importance of human creativity, problem-solving abilities, and emotional intelligence in the workplace. Industry 5.0
seeks to leverage the capabilities of both humans and machines to create synergistic relationships and drive innovation.
Overall, these emerging trends are helping manufacturers to improve the efficiency and sustainability of their production
processes, reduce costs, and create new business opportunities.
Objective
This convention will focus on enabling real-time monitoring and control of Mechanical Systems in areas such as Design,
Power, Energy, Manufacturing, and Management through the use of Technologies such as AI, ML, IOT, and Automation,
allowing for proactive decision making and facilitating versatile and adaptable production systems to quickly adapt to
changing customer demands and market conditions.
The convention intends to devise an extensive strategy for action that aligns newest innovations in Mechanical
Engineering with realistic industry requirements in order to assist them in expanding their ability to deal with diverse
threats in a more effective manner.
Programme Module
The programme of the National Seminar will consist of Inaugural Function, Industrial Exhibition, Six Technical Sessions,
Panel Discussion with open forum and Valedictory Function. Dr S Bhattacharyya and Dr S P Luthra Memorial Lecture will
be delivered by the eminent experts from the fields of Mechanical Engineering. Experts from both industry and academia

will deliver invited lectures on the following sub-themes of the National Seminar. Besides, a limited number of technical
papers will be presented in the National Seminar.
Call For Papers
All interested participants are requested to contribute technical/ research papers and case studies detailing the concept,
innovation, idea, or practical experiences for oral as well as poster presentation. Each paper should begin with a abstract
of about 300 words and should be limited to 3000 words excluding text, figures and tables etc. A brief bio-data of the

Guidelines for Authors
Based on original contributions leads to innovations, plans for development, observations, findings, critical surveys, and
case studies, which are invited for discussion in the National Seminar. Authors intending to submit a manuscript for the
38th National Convention of Mechanical Engineers and National Seminar on Emerging Trends and Developments on Smart
Manufacturing, Renewable Energy and Mechanical Systems Diagnostics/Design are advised to adhere to the guidelines
as mentioned below:
• The abstract of the Paper within 300 words with a maximum of five keywords has to be submitted first and after
acceptance of the same, the full text of the Paper has to be submitted.
• Domain experts will review Synopsis and the decision will be communicated to those authors whose synopsis is
accepted.
Full Text Paper should be prepared in line with the follows.
• Papers should be camera-ready in MS-Word format, not exceeding 3000 words in length excluding figures, tables,
appendices.
• The language of the Publication is English. The mode of presentation should be in third person.
• The Template for preparation of article and the Declaration Form, (to be submitted by the authors duly filled in and
signed for copyright purpose) is available with the link

• SI units should be used wherever possible. Other units, if used, should be given only in parentheses preceded by SI
units.

• Lengthy mathematical proofs and derivations and extensive test data are discouraged. If absolutely essential, they
should be given as appendices.

The papers are considered for possible publication on the understanding that these have not been submitted to any
other publisher. The copyright of papers accepted for publication lies with The Institution of Engineers (India) and
reproduction of the papers or any part thereof is not allowed without the permission of the Institution. Contributors are
required to sign a Declaration Form as enclosed to this effect while submitting their papers.
As per Bye-Law 118 of IEI, Copyright of each paper published in Institution Journals or Proceedings in full or in Abstract
