Today, I stand before you to shed light on a dark and troubling issue that lurks behind the facade of
welcoming new students to our college. This issue is none other than ragging, a notorious practice
that disguises itself as harmless initiation but often turns into something much more sinister.
Ragging, in reality, is a practice where senior students find an excuse to harass their junior
counterparts. It's a disturbing scenario where some individuals exploit their power and authority,
subjecting their juniors to mental and physical torment, all in the name of supposed tradition. These
actions are driven not by goodwill, but by a twisted desire for perverse sadistic pleasures.
The consequences of ragging are severe and far-reaching. Some unfortunate students sustain serious
physical injuries, while others are left scarred mentally, plagued by a fear psychosis that haunts them
for life. And, tragically, some even abandon their dreams of education altogether, a cruel fate for
those who worked tirelessly to secure their place in a prestigious institution.
Imagine, for a moment, the horror of a student who has poured their heart and soul into earning a
spot in a respected college, only to find themselves trapped in a nightmare of humiliation and fear.
This is a reality that no one should have to face.
It is no exaggeration to state that ragging has evolved into a serious violation of human rights, a stain
on the very fabric of education. Even the most esteemed and disciplined educational institutions are
not immune to its influence.
But today, I also bring you a message of hope and change. We have the power to stand up against
this menace, to ensure that our colleges become sanctuaries of growth and learning, free from the
shadows of fear and degradation. As we gather here, let us recognize the urgency to dismantle the
culture of ragging and replace it with one of compassion, understanding, and unity.
And so, with determination burning in our hearts, let us embark on a journey to create an
environment where every student can thrive without the specter of ragging looming over them.
Together, we can rewrite the narrative, not just for ourselves, but for the generations that follow. Let
this be the turning point where we declare, with unwavering resolve, that ragging shall find no
refuge within the walls of our institution.
Thank you.

Title: Echoes of Change
Characters:
- LUCY - Fresher
(Scene opens with MARK walking onto the college campus, looking around with nostalgia. He smiles
as he remembers his own days as a student. He spots SAM, a junior student, harassing LUCY, a
nervous fresher.)
MARK: (raising an eyebrow) Hey, Sam. It’s been a while. How are you doing? And (with confused
look) what’s up with all this?
SAM: (startled) Mark? Oh, hey! Just having a little fun, you know.
MARK: (disapprovingly) Fun? Looks more like you're crossing the line there.
MARK: (to Sam) You know, we used to rag too, but it was never meant to hurt anyone. It was all in
good spirit.
SAM: (defensive) Times have changed, man. We need to toughen them up.
MARK: (shaking his head) Toughen them up? Or traumatize them? There's a fine line, and you're way
past it.
(Lucy gathers her courage.)
LUCY : may I take my leave now? I have a class, gotta go!(finding an excuse to escape the scene)
SAM: hey wait! Where are you going? We aren’t done yet!! (glaring at lucy)
MARK: hey what's wrong with you?(to SAM)college is supposed to be a place of learning, right?, and
also, (pause) by the way it need to be a friendly interaction ,perhaps this ragging might evolve into a
serious violation of human rights ,which can be a stain on the very fabric of education.
LUCY: (addressing Sam) And it's not just about ragging. We need a voice against other issues too, like
discrimination and unequal treatment.
Mark: look sam ,as a senior we need to set a good example to them and guide them in every way
possible. “The bond between seniors and juniors is special – a connection that
transcends age and time.”
Mark: so you need to develop such a bond that would last a life time.
MARK: (respectfully) Professor Jones, we're discussing the thin line between friendly initiation and
harmful ragging.
MARK AND LUCY: (earnestly) And how it's time for a change, not just in ragging, but in the overall
atmosphere we create for freshers.
PROFESSOR JONES: (nodding) You're absolutely right. College should be a place of growth and
inclusivity, not fear.
[End scene.]
