1. Two charges 2.1 × 10 𝐶 and −8.4 × 10−8 𝐶 are placed at a separation of 50 cm. Find the

point along the straight line passing through the two charges at which electric field is zero.
2. Charges q, -q, 2q and -2q are arranged at the corner of a square of side 5 cm,
where q = 1 × 10−8 𝐶. Find the electric field intensity at the center of the square.
3. Find the potential at the centre of the square of sides10 cm having charges +2×10-6C,
3×10-6C, 4×10-12C and -4×10-12C at four corners.
4. Three charges +1×10-7C, -4×10-7C and +2×10-7C are placed at the three vertices of an
equilateral triangle of side 20 cm. find the minimum amount of work required to dismantle
this structure.
5. Two charges 4C and -1C are placed at a distance r apart. A charge Q is placed exactly
midway between them. What will be the value of Q so that charge –1C experiences no net
force?
6. What is the magnitude of point charge chosen so that the electric field 50 cm away has
magnitude of 2N/C?
7. Charges of uniform volume density 3.2𝝁C/m3 fill a non-conducting solid sphere of radius
5 cm. What is the magnitude of the electric field at (a) 3.5 cm and (b) 8 cm from the center
of the sphere?
8. If both the charges of a dipole of charge q and separation 2d are positive, show that the
electric field intensity is a distance r from the center of such dipole for r >> d is 𝐸 =

13. A parallel plate capacitor each of area 100cm2 has potential difference of 50V and
capacitance 100pF, if a mica of dielectric constant 5.4 is inserted between the plates, find
the magnitude of (a) electric field intensity, (b) displacement vector and (c) polarization
vector.
14. A parallel plate capacitor consists of two dielectric slabs (of equal dimensions) of dielectric
constants K1 and K2 as shown in figure below. (i) Find the capacitance in each case if A is
area of each plate. (ii) If K1 = 2 and K2 = 3, what will be the ratio of the capacitance in two
cases?

15. Two point charges 6𝜇𝐶 and -24 𝜇𝐶 are 18 cm aoart in air. Locate the positions of zero
potential on the line joining the charges.
16. Two capacitors having capacitance 25 𝜇𝐹 and 5 𝜇𝐹 are connected in parallel and charged
with a 100V power supply. Calculate the total energy stored in two capacitors.
17. A parallel plate capacitor whose capacitance is 13.5pF is charged by a battery to potential
difference 12.5V between its plates. The charging battery is now disconnected and a
porcelain slab (K = 6.50) is supplied between the plates. (a) What is the potential energy
of the capacitor before the slab inserted? (b) What is the potential energy of the capacitor
after the slab inserted?
18. The parallel plates in a capacitor, with plate area of 8.5cm2 and air filled separation of 3mm
are charged by a 6V battery. They are then disconnected from the battery and pulled to a
separation of 8mm. Neglecting fringing, find (a) the potential difference between the plates
(b) the initial energy and (c) the final energy stored.
