Compass Installation Issues

New Installation Issues


99% of the time if there is an issue with the installation process either User Access
Control (UAC) or Antivirus/Firewall software is the cause.

Turn off or uninstall any Antivirus and/or Firewall software, then find the appropriate
setup.exe and right click (to trigger the context menu) and select “Run as administrator”.

Upgrading Issues
 Before upgrade to Compass 1.2 or later:
 Uninstall the previous version of Compass
 Delete all files and folders in the c:\Alerton\Compass\1.0\System\ folder except the
\Licenses folder.
 It is not necessary to delete the Drivers folder or stop the Bacnet Ethernet Service.
 Uninstall the previous version of VisualLogic
 If upgrading from Compass 1.0 or Compass 1.1, delete the [NBT_BACNET_CONFIG]
section from the profile.ini file
 Cannot Import from Envision for BACtalk 3.0
 Use the Backup/Restore workflow.
 If this is a Beta installation, upgrade to the release version of Compass.

 Public Web Server fails to start


 Conflicting HttpPort? (bactalk.ini)
 Antivirus software
 Firewall software
 Browser displays “waiting”
 After updating to Compass 1.2 or later clear your browser cache. This needs to be
done for each client accessing Compass using a Web browser.
 Reset the ‘Niagara BACnet Settings’ by removing the [NBT_BACNET_CONFIG] section
in the profile.ini and resetting the Niagara BACnet Settings in Compass (Tools >
General System Setup > Network).
 Compass 1.5 SQLEXPRESS issues
 Backup failure > delete the existing .bak file and try again.
(Compass/1.0/REP/JOB/database/REP__JOB.bak)
 Unable to login to REP__JOB database
 The database file may not be associated with the SQL server instance
 Delete database files located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\MSSQL12.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA
 Verify the SQLEXPRESS service is running
 Open the Windows Services control panel and look for the “SQL Server
(SQLEXPRESS) service and verify it is running.
 Note: Some systems may not allow SQLEXPRESS to be installed by our installer.
 Use our DataCollect tool to gather information about your installation.
