Collateral Beauty

(Narrative Report Reflection)

From the film itself it is really sad and yet confusing at the same time while
watching the beginning because we do not know yet what the characters’
story behind the film. So after some time it really focuses on how a man
named Howard Inlet (Will Smith) experiencing the effects of losing his own
daughter. Then with that life for him started to become so different and so
sad that all he had within him was doubt and hate.

Now the film begins with Howard Inlet who is shown causing chain reaction
of dominos then leaves the office while his friends/co-workers Claire, Whit,
and Simon talk about the company’s state and Howard’s. The company is
having trouble with competition and Howard managing it as he has a mental
illness he doesn’t talk about. Then the three (3) starts to plan to make
Howard look unable or unfit to run the company so they hired three people
as actors/actress to portray Love, Time, and Death. With Brigitte playing
Death, Raffy as Time, and Amy as Love, the three (3) follow Howard then
talk to him about life while an investigator hooked up with a camera follows
them and records Howard’s reaction. Then Claire, Whit, and Simon edit the
video to remove Brigitte, Raffi, and Amy from it to make it look like Howard
is losing his mind and hallucinating such things. When they meet Howard at
an office they told him that he is unfit to manage the company and has to
sign a paper to move the shares. With this Howard tells them how great they
are and what life they are facing individually. Saying Simon’s illness, Claire’s
dream to bear a child, and Whit’s daughter then the three (3) felt awful and
thought about what Howard said to them. Howard signed two (2) papers one
for the company and his daughter’s. Howards takes a walk then again sees
the lady which Madelein who also lost a daughter, she invites Howard inside
her home then sees photos and videos of her daughter then he realized that
Madelein’s daughter was also his. He shouted their daughter’s name Olivia
and admits he has an illness they both then cried, tearing and hugged it out.
Then it shows the life of his three (3) friends with Simon meeting Brigitte to
pay her receives advice that death is not to be feared, Claire meeting Raffi
to pay him for his acting receives advice that having a child is not necessary
as there are many parental figures out there then saying bullshit afterwards,
and lastly Whit meeting Amy to also pay her and Amy tells him that his
daughter loves him no matter what as Love always prospers. The ending
scene shows Howard and Madelein holding hands walking in the park as they
move on from their daughter’s death, then they turn around and see Love,
Time and Death at the little bridge as they look away then turn back no one
is there. The film ends capturing the whole Park.
So from the story of the film it has three (3) perspectives in life which Love,
Time and Death. From this we have an idea of how to live our life but not
only that but also realize our mistakes that we made in the past and how we
should Learn from them. But there’s also moving on from the past as we
cannot hold onto it as it will just cause more devastation than it already is.
Especially a loved one’s death as they would not wish for us to be sad all the
time they would want us to continue life and never forget the memories they
had. In the End these three (3) things that I mentioned above is just simply
Life broken into three (3) separate parts. Let us always appreciate those
people who have supported us and gave time to hear our Lives, our Friends,
Family, and Relatives. Let us not forget to Learn from the past that we
made, they may be unforgiving or really sad but we have to move on and
Forgive but not Forget, because that is Life.
