• How will you know the answer?
Let’s study the Methods to know the answer:
A. Visual reasoning
6 - Women participants
16
5
- men
8
B. Cross Multiplication
8 16 8 = 8 , 16 , 24 , 32
4 x 2 8 x2 16 = 16 , 32
- 69 -
To change dissimilar to similar fractions, divide the LCD 16
by the denominator 8, multiply the answer (quotient) by the numerator,
the answer is the new numerator. Do the same with the other fraction.
5 6 = 10 , 6
8 16 16 16
16 ÷ 8 = 2 x 5 = 10 16 ÷ 16 = 1 x 6 = 6
B. 16 15
4 3 4 x 4 = 16
5 4 3 x 5 = 15

f. How do you order fractions with the same numerators?
• In ordering fractions with the same numerators, look at the
denominators, the greater the denominator, the lesser is
the value of the fraction; the smaller the denominator, the
greater the value of the fraction.
Ex. 5 5 5 5
4 3 2 1
• In descending order :
( 5 5 5 5 )
1 2 3 4
• In ascending order :
( 5 5 5 5 )
4 3 2 1
- 72 -
4
{ 9 }
5
{ 6 }
1
{ 5 }
• The figures show that 5/6 is bigger than 4/9 and 4/9 is
bigger than 1/5.
• How will you arrange the fractions in ascending order ?
( 1/5 , 4/9 , 5/6 )
• How will you arrange then in descending order ?
( 5/6 , 4/9 , 1/5 )
