Summer National Biology Courses

This document outlines a national summer in-service curriculum for biology teachers over five years. It details the biology coursework, credit hours, and instructors for each summer and winter term. Some of the top concerns raised are that the 15 credit hour summer and 9 credit hour winter loads may be too heavy for students. Distance learning modules also need to be prepared urgently to support students missing winter courses. Proper implementation of tutorials and sufficient contact hours and laboratory set-ups are needed for distance courses.

Exempted course

- Introduction to Biological Laboratory Techniques

7
Top Concerns
- 15 Cr.hrs per summer and 9 cr.hrs per winter – Is heavy load
 usually 12 credits per summer in most university
senate legislation
- 9 credits per winter-Is also heavy for the students
- Proposed Solution:
o Exemption of some courses required
o The teaching load of the teachers in the school should
be reduced!
- Some courses to be given in summer II already given in
summer I and Vise versa (Ex. Invertebrate Zoology, Cell
Biology )
o To be handled by Add/Drop
- Modules for Distance courses ►need to be urgently
prepared and distributed!!
o Year II (2001 entry) students - winter I &II courses
o Year I (2002 entry) students - Winter I courses

- For 2001 entry students one additional winter is required to

complete the courses already missed in winter I
- Proper implementation of tutorial program for distance
courses
o Contact hour should be sufficient based on the credit
hours
o Laboratory set-ups
