Setting Classroom Rules

It is necessary if we have classroom

rules to follow in our every discussion
to have a functional and successful
learning setting.
So, here are our classroom rules:

 No cellphones throughout the

discussions. You can only use
phones if they are needed for
activities.
 Listen to the teacher not to
your seatmate.
 Raise your hand if you have a
question or concern.
 Participate in every activity.

ethnicity?
Me too.

I am Hiligaynon ma’am.

My family is Bisaya.

Mine is Agutaynen.
That’s nice!

So, everyone please group yourselves

based on your ethnicity.

Our activity is “glad to meet you, how are

you?”

In this activity, all you have to do is talk

to your classmates about their language.
You will ask them about the simple
words that you want to know/learn, and
you will share that later before we start
our discussion. Yes ma’am.

Understood? (The students will do the activity)

Very good! You may start your activity

now.
(The class start sharing)
Times up! Settle down everyone. Let’s
start sharing.

The activity we just did is actually an

overview to our topic for this afternoon
is cultural diversity.

Discussion

It is very important to have knowledge

about cultural diversity.

Culture is a broad term that

encompasses beliefs, values, norms,
behaviors, and overall can be
understood as our “way of
being.” While cultural diversity is the
quality of diverse or different cultures,
as opposed to monoculture, the global
monoculture, or a homogenization of
cultures, akin to cultural evolution.

The importance of cultural

diversity can be interpreted
based on these related actions:

 Recognizing that there are many

cultures that exist.

 Respecting each other’s differences.

 Acknowledging that all cultural

expressions are valid.
 Valuing what cultures must bring to
the table.

 Empowering diverse groups to

contribute.

 Celebrating differences, not just

tolerating them.

Benefits Of Cultural Diversity

Compassion: Communication and
understanding of differences leads to
increased compassion instead of
judgment.

Innovation: Varied perspectives and

lens of looking at the world lend to
innovative thinking.

Productivity: People who come

together and bring their own style of
working together tend to support a
more productive team.

New Opportunities: diversity opens

the door to new opportunities and the
blending of ideas which would
otherwise have been homogeneous.

Problem-Solving: Challenges are
layered, so having people with
different backgrounds can lead to
better problem-solving with richness
of opinions.
Yes ma’am.
Are you still listening?

How To Support Cultural Diversity

 Interact with people outside of

your culture.
 Be open-minded to listen and let
go of judgment.

 If you see anyone who is culturally

insensitive, speak out against it.

 Accept that differences are

beneficial and not harmful.

 Don’t force your beliefs on people

with opposing views.

 Advocate to hire people or work

with people who are not within
your same culture.

 Travel the world as much as you

can to take part in cultures and
understand them from the source.

 Read literature and learn from

different cultures.

 Absorb media and art from

around the world.

 Learn a new language and

communicate in a friend’s native
language rather than your own.

Do you understand class? Yes ma’am.

Activity

Since you said you understand our

discussion, let’s now have an activity.

In this activity, you will turn sentences

into phrases.

“Dress me up!”

In this activity, I will give you a paper

doll and you are going to dress this doll
depending on how you wanted it to look
like. After that, you will hold the
dressed-up doll, and describe the
characteristic of one of your classmates
as if she was that paper doll you are
holding.

You only have 10 minutes to make your

paper doll.
Yes ma’am.
Am I clear?

Summary

Have you learned from our discussion Yes ma’am.

this afternoon?

If you surely learned, who could give a (Learners are raising their hands)
brief summarization of the topic we
discussed?

Ms. Valles, please give us an overview Throughout the discussion, I have learned
of our topic this afternoon. that understanding other cultures can help
us appreciate various viewpoints on the
world we live in. It aids in eliminating
unfavorable stereotypes and individual
biases regarding various groups.
Furthermore, acknowledging and
respecting "ways of being" that are not
necessarily similar to our own is made
easier by cultural diversity.
Absolutely!
It looks like you’ve really learned,
that’s great!
