Figures of Speech
Idioms- a phrase that means something different form the individual words in it (it’s raining cats and dogs)
Simile – compare two things using like or as (you eat like a pig)
Metaphor – compare two things without using like or as (life is a highway)
Alliteration – same beginning sound (Alice ate an Apple)
Onomatopoeia – words that imitate real sounds (Meow)
Personification – give human qualities to non-human things (The leaves dance in the wind)
Hyperbole – extreme exaggeration to make a point (I told you a million times.)
Label each statement using the seven figures of speech found above. (Hint: 3 of each kind)
