Oracle eAM Naming Conventions
General Standard is ALL naming conventions will be in UPPER CASE LETTERS (CAPITAL
LETTERS) with no spaces and only use hyphens ( - ). Quality Plans use underscores ( _ ) rather
than hyphens.
DESCRIPTIONS for Asset Groups, Assets, Asset Activities, Meters, etc shall be typed in UPPER
CASE.
The purpose of an Asset Group in Oracle is to combine like assets into one group where only one
bill of materials is required. The recommended naming convention then becomes ORGXXXX-
MFG-MODEL.
ORG is the 3-character Organization Code (i.e. GBF, GBD, G06, H2W, H2X, etc.)
XXXX- is the 3- or 4-character Asset Class Code followed by a hyphen (-)
MFG-MODEL –the Asset’s manufacturer and model number
1
AR- is the Abbreviation for Asset Route followed by a hyphen (-)
ROUTE-NAME – is the name given to the Route
ORGXXXX-ASSETNUMBER-##
ORG is the 3-character Org Code (i.e. GBF, GBD, G06, H2W, H2X, etc.),
XXXX- is the 3- or 4-character Asset Class Code followed by a hyphen (-)
ASSETTNAME is the Asset Number, followed by a hyphen (-)
Optional: ## is 2 Characters (i.e. M1 for the first meter number.) This helps identify the
item as a meter and is helpful when meters need to be changed.
2
AAAAAAA is the Asset Number (Manufacture & Model if used for multiple assets) followed
by a hyphen (-)
## - is a numerical sequence number making the activity unique
Note: It is not recommended to put the frequency in the Activity Name as this may change.
The recommendation is to put the Day Interval at the beginning of the Activity Description.
3
Attachment Naming Conventions
Oracle eAM has attachments for Assets, Work Order, Work Order Operations, Asset Activities and
more. It is strongly recommended to start any attachment DESCRIPTION with your 3-character
Organization Code. (Use the same name for the Attachment Title and Attachment Description.)
Asset Attachments shall begin with the ORG followed by the Asset Number hyphen and the type
of information. i.e. ORGASSETNUMBER-NAMEPLATE, ORGASSETNUMBER-NOTES
Work Order or Operation Attachments may vary depending on the type of attachment. If the
attachment is for work instructions that are used often, a pre-plan activity should be used to create
the work order. If the attachment is specific for the work order it may be ORG-WORKORDER-
STEPS or ORG-WORKORDER-NOTES.
Asset Activity Attachments shall be the Asset Activity. If the attachment is a standard work
procedure, it may be something like ORG-CRANE-SAFETY-PRECHECK.
