RT Chapter 1

1. What are 6 advantages of radiographic testing?

It is compatible with most materials. It provides a permanent visual record.
It reveals discontinuities withing a material. It allows for the inspection of a component's internal structure.

It discloses fabrication errors and indicates the need for corrective actions. It reveals assembly errors.
2. What are 5 limitations of radiographic testing?
It requires accessibility to both sides of the test object. It is difficult to detect small
discontinuities that are not parallel with the radiation beam.
It is expensive. It is time consuming. It can be difficult to determine the depth of a discontinuity.
3. What are the basic principles to minimize radiation exposure in industrial radiography?
Minimize time duration working with radiation sources
Increase distance between the source of radiation and the technician and others
Provide shielding of a suitable material density to attenuate X- and gamma rays
4. How many basic levels of qualification are there for non-destructive personnel?

5. How do you become qualified in non-destructive testing in accordance with SNT-TC-1A?

You need to have the requisite hours and training for the methods you want to be qualified for.

6. What is non-destructive testing certification?

Personnel can be certified when they have completed the initial training, experience, and

examination requirements described in the employer’s written practice.

7. How are digit strings written?

Spaces not commas
