Lesson - Plan Science 3 Q1

1. The document describes a 3-part lesson plan to teach students in 3rd grade about identifying and describing objects based on their physical characteristics like shape, weight, volume, and ease of flow. 2. The first activity has students sorting objects into groups based on shared characteristics. The second activity has students describing objects that the teacher shows. The third uses picture cards of real objects. 3. Assessment questions evaluate students' understanding of characteristics like an object's shape, weight, volume, and how descriptions of characteristics can categorize objects.

Objective: Describe different objects based on their characteristics (e.g.

Shape, Weight, Volume, Ease of Flow)

Subject: S3MT-Ia-b-1

Grade Level: Grade 3

Learning across curriculum:

1. Science - Identifying different objects based on their physical properties.

2. Math - Measuring and comparing the weight, volume, and dimensions of different
objects.

3. Art - Creating visual representations of objects based on their characteristics.

Review Motivation:

1. Show pictures of various objects and ask students to identify their characteristics.

2. Conduct a "Guess the Object" game where students describe an object's

characteristics and others guess what it is.

3. Bring in different objects and have students touch, observe, and describe their
characteristics.

Activity 1: Sorting Objects

Materials: Various objects with different characteristics (e.g. blocks, balls,

containers)

Instructions:

1. Divide the class into small groups.

2. Provide each group with a set of objects.

3. Instruct the students to sort the objects based on their characteristics (shape,
weight, volume, ease of flow).
4. Give them a specific amount of time to complete the task.

Rubrics:

Criteria: Accurate sorting of objects based on characteristics

Points: 5

Assessment Questions:

1. What characteristics did you consider when sorting the objects?

2. Can you give an example of an object that is easy to flow? Why?

Activity 2: Describing Objects

Materials: Various objects with different characteristics (e.g. cubes, marbles,

bottles)

Instructions:

1. Show each to the students one by one.

2. the students to describe the characteristics of each object (shape, weight, volume,
ease of flow).

3. Discuss their descriptions as a class.

Rubrics:

Criteria: Accurate description of object characteristics

Points: 5
Assessment Questions:

1. How would you describe the shape of the cube?

2. What is the volume of the bottle?

Activity 3: Real-Life Objects

Materials: Picture cards showing real-life objects (e.g. pencil, basketball, glass
of water)

Instructions:

1. Show each picture card to the students.

2. Ask the students to describe the characteristics of each object (shape, weight,
volume, ease of flow).

3. Discuss their descriptions as a class.

Rubrics:

Criteria: Accurate description of object characteristics

Points: 5

Assessment Questions:

1. How would you describe the weight of the basketball?

2. What is the shape of the glass of water?

Analysis:

Based on the activities, students were able to accurately describe different objects
based on their characteristics. They showed an understanding of shape, weight,
volume, and ease of flow.
Abstraction:

Students learned that objects can be described and categorized based on their
characteristics. They discovered that different objects have different shapes,
weights, volumes, and ease of flow.

Application:

Give the students a real-life problem: "You are tasked to design a package for
fragile objects. What characteristics should the package have to protect the
objects inside?"

Assessment:

Teachers can assess the learning of the students by observing their participation in
the activities, their ability to accurately describe object characteristics, and their
understanding of how different characteristics affect the objects.

Assignment:

Draw three different objects and describe their characteristics (shape, weight,
volume, ease of flow). Use complete sentences and be as specific as possible.
