Lesson A.1. Journeying in faith as God’s People.

God did not only call individuals, but also a whole nation to a relationship with Him. God’s plan, as early
as the creation, was to form a people He could call His own.

Lesson B.1. The Struggles with Slavery

Jacob’s descendants prospered in Egypt. Under the care of Joseph who was a powerful and wealthy
government official. The Israelite families thrived and continued to multiply.

1. God saves Moses


Moses was born a Hebrew but was raised an Egyptian. His mother saved him from the slaughter of the
Hebrew male children by planning for him to be found by the pharaoh’s daughter.

2. God calls Moses to save His people

When the pharaoh had dies, he was succeeded by Rameses II. He treated the Israelites even more
harshly. The Israelites continued their backbreaking labor to build monuments for Rameses II, they cried
out to God for help. God responded by calling Moses.

Moses had been tasked by God to carry out a daunting and seemingly impossible mission. God’s
call to Moses shows the mystery of His choice.

Lesson C.1. The preparation for the Exodus

Moses returned to Egypt with his brother Aaron and explained to the people everything that God had told
him.

1. God sends the Plagues

The Bible interprets the plagues as “signs and wonders” or events pointing to God’s presence. These
signs must not be ordinary events such as the overflowing of the Nile River.

Lesson D.1. The Ten Commandments

God set the terms of the covenant by giving Israel His fundamental law, the Ten Commandments,
are God’s moral commands on how the Israelites were to live as God’s people. The Ten Commandments
were the core of the covenant between God and His people.

textbook

God revealed Himself to the Israelites as the Lord of history and as a Savior who gives
His people true freedom and a better life. Having entered into a covenant of friendship with His
people, God remained faithful to them and provided them with their needs even if were times
when they become unfaithful to Him.
