Precalculus First Bimester Syllabus
Precalculus First Bimester Syllabus
Welcome to your Precalculus class. My name is Mrs. Marcia Solis and I will be your
teacher for this school year. I am (class of ‘00). I have taught all levels of Math, Physics,
Chemistry and Macroeconomics for about 13 years, and this is my fourth year at EIS.
I have been a math lover all of my life. Precalculus sets the groundwork and bases for
my all time favorite class: Calculus. I hope that I can teach you not only about the concepts and
skills required to succeed in class, but also to enjoy and love the area of Precalculus and
Calculus.
But before we get started, we must establish a few ground rules:
● Digital Interactive Notebook / Notebook/ Guided Notes (you will be expected to take notes
daily).
● Scientific calculator (no graphing, solving calculator allowed)
Classroom Rules:
● Arrive to class on time; sit in the assigned seat or group with required materials before
the bell rings. Leave until dismissed by the teacher. If you are late: You must come to
class with a white pass from the office (no other passes allowed). If you come to class
without a pass and interrupt my class twice, you will get a double infraction and possible
loose participation points.
● Follow the teacher's instructions at all times.
● No eating or chewing gum in class.
● No headphones allowed during class. Some exceptions will be made when we are all
watching videos sometimes in class, but your teacher will tell you ahead of time. Any
use of headphones without authorization will result in these being taken and sent to the
office until your parents come to collect them.
● No cell phone use during class. Must be stowed away in a locker. See cell phone
and belonging policy here.
● Dress appropriately wearing proper school uniform. See uniform policy here.
● Follow the school's grooming guidelines.
● Be attentive and respectful to others.
Pg 1
● Come prepared to participate in collaborative team building activities. Show a positive
attitude.
● Must work in class to receive daily credit.
● Have all materials ready for class (computer/IPad, pencil, paper, calculator, etc).
Sharing materials will NOT be allowed.
● HW and CW must be submitted according to your teacher’s expectations (GC, Toddle,
etc).
IN CLASS POLICY:
HW/CW POLICY:
● Work is considered late once the teacher has requested it during the class period( or by
an assigned date and time).
● See the Late Policy below:
●
● Changes to any school policies will be notified to students and parents via email.
ABSENTEE POLICY:
● All students are required to take their exams when scheduled.
If a student is absent with a valid excuse all approved by administration (e.g. student is ill with a
medical excuse submitted to office, student is representing the school or country at an event)
● Parents must present an excuse to the secondary office ([email protected] )..
For an excuse to be considered valid it must be accompanied with a medical excuse or
proof to support the absence.
See school’s absentee policy below:
Pg 2
● When a student misses a scheduled test or quiz, the teacher and the student must
reschedule the quiz/test within a maximum of one week after the absence.
● If a student misses the scheduled make-up quiz/exam, he/she will get a maximum of
70%
● It is the responsibility of the student to catch up with all assignments which took place
during the absence. The student will have up to one week to submit all assignments
missed.
● It is also the Parents responsibility to ensure that their children complete all missing
assignments.
GRADING STRUCTURE:
CUMULATIVE 65%: This category will consist of a couple of different types of assessments,
both formative and summative.
❖Participation 10%:
➢ Positive Attitude!!!!!!
➢ Bringing your ALL materials to class
➢ Following norms regarding dress code and grooming.
➢ Collaboratively working within your team.
❖Daily Class Activities 25%:
➢ These will be completed during class time as individual or as collaborative team
building tasks.
➢ Students should expect to work in team groups in this class. It is important that
Pg 3
you learn how to explain yourself verbally with the proper math language and
how to work with other students in discovering different ways to solve problems.
There will be times when you are asked to present your work to the class.
❖Homework 10%:
➢ Homework will be assigned daily. All work assigned in class must be handed in
the next day through Google Classroom, Toddle or according to your teacher’s
instructions. Any late work will result in a deduction of points according to school
policy stated above. You must always follow instructions for assignment
submission.
❖Group Team Building Activities or Projects 20%:
➢ Projects: You will be given some school time to work on them but may also
require some out of school time to be completed.
EXAMS 35%: This category will consist of unit tests. Make up exams will be different and have
no extra credit
Chapter Tests 25%:
❖ There will be an exam at the end of each Unit. Make up exams will be different
and have no extra credit.
.Quizzes 10%:
❖ There will be a few every bimester between chapter exams. Make up quizzes will
be different and have no extra credit.
❖ Makeup quizzes could be deduced from tests, when the student has not been
able to take the quiz before the test date. Your teacher will inform you if this
ahead of time.
❖ The problems will be similar to those done in class or on tutorials. The point of
these “quizzes” is not to stress you out, rather it is to check your comprehension
of the lessons and not just going through the motions (and so you’re NOT
cheating). If you successfully completed your practice assignments, quizzes
should be really easy.
Student Resources:
1. Toddle: Communitactions, assignments, and some submissions will take place through
Toddle. It is the responsibility of the student to check their Toddle and emails constantly.
2. Plus Portals/Rediker: Grading will be posted periodically in Rediker, or Toddle.
3. Delta Math: Daily HW, Review Videos, extra practice.
4. Guided Notes: Will be provided by the teacher for daily recording of notes. You must
take notes daily. These will be checked and graded periodically (unannounced) towards
your participation/classwork grades. These must be stored in a folder.
5. Others: Khan Academy, Flipped Math, etc.
