You must answer Question 1, Question 2 and two other questions.

1. Choose any two of the following Hadiths, and:

ُ ‫َﺣلَل‬
ْ ‫ وأ‬،‫ت َرَﻣﻀا َن‬
ُ ‫وص ْﻤ‬
ُ ،‫صلَوات اﳌَكْتُو ت‬ َ ‫ت إذا‬
َ ْ‫ َأرأَي‬:‫فقال‬ َ ‫سول ﷲ‬ َ َ ‫أ ﱠن َر ُج ًﻼ َسأ‬ (i
َ ‫وَﱂْ أ ِز ْد علَى‬
َ ‫ أأَ ْد ُﺧ ُﻞ اﳉَﻨﱠﺔَ؟‬،‫ذلﻚ ﺷيﺌًا‬
.‫ ﻧَـ َﻌ ْم‬:‫ﻗال‬
i) A man asked the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and give him peace): Do you think that if
I perform the obligatory prayers, fast in Ramadan, treat as lawful that which is lawful and treat as
forbidden that which is forbidden, and do nothing further, I shall enter paradise? He said: Yes.
‫ وﻣن كان واليوم اﻵﺧﺮ فليكﺮم ﺿيﻔه‬،‫ وﻣن كان يؤﻣن واليوم اﻵﺧﺮ فليكﺮم جاره‬،‫( ﻣن كان يؤﻣن واليوم اﻵﺧﺮ فليقﻞ ﺧﲑاً أو ليصﻤت‬ii
ii) Let him who believes in Allah and the Last Day either speak good or keep silent and let him who
believes in Allah and the Last Day be generous to his neighbour and let him who believes in Allah
and the Last Day be generous to his guest.
‫( ﻻ يؤﻣن أﺣﺪكم ﺣﱴ ﳛﺐ ﻷﺧيه ﻣا ﳛﺐ لﻨﻔﺴه‬iii
iii) None of you believes until he wants for his brother what he wants for himself.
‫ وﻷئ ﱠﻤﺔ اﳌﺴلﻤﲔ وعا ﱠﻣتهم‬،‫ ولﺮسوله‬،‫ ولكتابه‬، :‫ ﳌَن؟ ﻗال‬:‫ ﻗلﻨا‬،‫( ال ِّﺪين الﻨﱠصيﺤﺔ‬iv
iv) ‘Religion is sincerity.’ We said: ‘To whom?’ The Prophet said: ‘To Allah, his Book, his Messenger,
the leaders of the Muslims and to their common people.’

You must answer Question 1, Question 2 and two other questions.

Madina that led to his martyrdom. [10]
(b) ‘Umar and ‘Uthman stood by what they believed to be just and were martyred for the position
they took. What lessons can be learnt from their martyrdom? Give reasons for your answer. [4]

• The times when God is thought most likely to accept du’a. [10]
