Introduction
Information Systems (IS) have become crucial to organizational effectiveness. An effective IS can equip an
organization with better planning, better decision-making and hence the desired results. With firms moving
into the digital world, the management of organizations is becoming more challenging. Providing the right
information for the right people at the right time is the mantra of success in the world of business, which is
precisely the job of IS. ISs maintains accurate information that can be quickly accessed on demand, securely.
The strategies for maintaining competitiveness of companies involved in production and delivery of
information goods and services is a major challenge. Business IS can effectively implement better
communication between the employers and the employees. It has also been a challenge to reap the benefits
of Information Technology owing to multiple factors that need to be considered within an organization. In
order to get the maximum benefit from IS, managers need to develop an understanding of the various aspects
of IS in businesses viz., Business Processes and IS Development, IS Strategy, Security and Ethical
Considerations, Enabling Technologies for Digitization, and Decision Making using IS.

Pedagogy Used/Learning Process

The participants are expected to read the assigned readings prior to the class and be ready for instant class
participation. Cases etc. will be used to generate discussions. Students are expected to participate in all
classroom discussions. Hence, the learning is expected to happen through lectures, discussions in an interactive
environment.

Assignments/ Project:

Group and individual assignments will be given in the class from time to time. Students need to submit the
assignments before the stipulated dates. Projects may also be given to group of students with a group size of 5-6
students. Each of the groups will undertake possibly a real-life project. The project study and its analysis shall be
structured around the themes covered in the course. The data may be collected through primary and/or secondary
sources.
