1. The magnetic frame shown in Fig. 1 is built up of iron of square cross-section, 3 cm side. Each
air gap is 2 mm wide. Each of the coils is wound with 1000 turns and the exciting current is 1.0
A. The relative permeability of part A and part B may be taken as 1000 and 1200 respectively.
Calculate the following:
(i) Reluctance of part A,B, and air gap
(ii) Total reluctance of the complete magnetic circuit,
(iii) The mmf, and total flux
(iv) Linkage flux
(v) Flux density
(vi) Magnetic sored energy. Leakage and fringing may be neglected.

2. Two couple coils have self and mutual inductance of L11 = 3+1/3x; L22 = 1+1/3x; L12 = L21 = 1/3x
over a certain range of linear displacement x. The first coil is excited by a constant current of
10A and the second by a constant current of -5A. Find
i. The mechanical work done if x changes from 0.5 to 1m and
ii. Energy supplied by each electrical source for the above case.

section area of core to square of diameter of circumscribing circle is 0.6 (Ai/d2), Ratio of height to
width of window is 2, Kw = 0.28,

assuming the following data. Et = 8.5 V, = 2.5A/mm2, Bm =1.25Wb/m2., Kw = 0.3, Ks = 0.9, Ratio
of magnetic and electric loadings equal to 480 10-8

Determine:
i. The dimensions of the core (net core area, diameter of circle, window area, window
dimension)
ii. The number of the turns
iii. The primary and secondary currents
iv. The cross section area of primary and secondary winding

9. A 400 V, 5.6 Kw, 50 Hz, 4 pole delta-connected slip ring induction motor gave the following test
data. No-load test: 400 V, 6 A, cos =0.087
Blocked-rotor test: 100 V, 12 A, 720 W
The ratio of primary to secondary turns = 2.62,stator resistance per phase is 0.67 Ω and
the rotor is 0.185Ω.
Draw the circle diagram and determine
(a) The line current and power factor rated output;
(b) The maximum output;
(c) The maximum torque;
(d) Rotor and Motor efficiency;
(e) The full-load rotor speed

10. A 400 V, 40 hp (*746 W), 50 Hz, 4 pole delta-connected induction motor gave the following test
data. No-load test: 400 V, 20 A, 1200 W
Blocked-rotor test: 100 V, 45 A, 2800 W

11. Obtain the following design information for the stator of a 30 kW, 440 V, 3ɸ, 6 poles, and 50 Hz
delta connected, squirrel cage induction motor,
i. Main dimension of the stator,
ii. No. of turns/phase
iii. No. of stator slots,
iv. No. of conductors per slot. Assume suitable values for the missing design data.

12. A 33 kW, 400 volts 6 pole, 50 Hz, 3 phase induction motor is built with a stator diameter of 0.2 m
and a core length of 0.15 m. The specific electric loading is 26000 ac/m. Using data of this
machine determine (i) the core dimensions,(i) number of slots, (iii) Stator turns per phase and

(iv) number of stator conductors for a 15kW, 440 volts, 4 pole, and 50 Hz motor. Assume the
stator slot/pole/phase =3 and full load efficiency of 90 % and power factor of 0.8 and the winding
factor is 0.9.
13. Develop the single layer lap winding for a D C machine having 32 armature conductors and 4
poles. Mark the poles, Draw the sequence diagram, and indicate the position of the brushes and
the direction of induced electromotive force.

14. Draw the winding diagram of a D C Machine with 4 poles, 14 slots, and progressive, double layer
lap winding. Show the position of brushes and direction of induced electromotive force.
15. Develop a wave winding diagram for a DC machine having 34 armature conductors
accommodated in 17 slots and 4 poles. Draw the sequence diagram, indicate the position of the
brushes, and show the direction of induced electromotive force.
