Pattern7
Ask your telephone company which pattern you need to select to use this
service. For example, Pattern7 is the New Zealand FaxAbility distinctive
ringing pattern: rings for 400 ms, stops for 800 ms, rings for 400 ms and stops
for 1400 ms. This pattern is repeated over and over again. This printer only
responds to Distinctive Alert cadence(s) DA4 in New Zealand.
[TEL Mode] Automatic fax reception is turned off. You can receive a fax by picking up the
handset of the external telephone and then pressing the remote receive code,
or by tapping [Receive] on the touch panel.
[FAX Mode] Automatically receives faxes.
76 User Guide
[TEL/FAX Mode] When the printer receives an incoming fax, the external telephone rings for
the time specified in [TEL/FAX Mode] under [Auto Answer Setup], and then
the printer starts receiving the fax. If an incoming call is not a fax, the printer
beeps from the internal speaker indicating that the call is a telephone call.
[Ans/FAX Mode] This mode is intended for use with an answering machine. When the
answering machine receives the call, the printer monitors the call for fax
tones. When the printer detects fax tones, the printer automatically receives
the fax. When the answering machine is off, the printer goes into [FAX Mode]
after the ring tone sounds for a predefined time. If the phone communication
in your country is serial, this mode is not supported.
[DRPD Mode] Before using the Distinctive Ring Pattern Detection (DRPD) option, a
distinctive ring service must be installed on your telephone line by the
telephone company. After the telephone company has provided a separate
number for faxing with a distinctive ring pattern, configure the fax setup to
monitor for that specific ring pattern.
[FAX Mode] Sets the interval at which the printer goes into the fax receive mode after
receiving an incoming call.
[TEL/FAX Mode] Sets the interval at which the printer goes into the fax receive mode after the

3.7.6 Linking Trays
The printer links the trays when you load the same size and type of print media in the trays. The first tray is
utilized until the print media runs out after which the next tray is used.
Note
• The print media should be the same size and type in each tray.
• The bypass tray can be linked if you specify the paper size and type on the operator panel.
After loading the same size and type of print media in the selected trays, select the appropriate paper type on
the operator panel for each tray.
To disable tray linking, change the paper type for one of the trays to a unique value.
Note
• If the same size but different types of print media are loaded, the printer links them only if the paper type is not
specified in the print driver or operator panel.
Important
• Overtightening the guides may cause jams.
Note
• Before loading the document(s) in the Duplex Automatic Document Feeder (DADF), straighten the edges of the stack of
the document(s).
• Use the document stopper when copying a legal-size document.

4.3.1 Overview
The printer provides several ways to scan your document. There are two main scanning types: one is operated
from the printer when scanning, and the other from a computer.
The following illustration shows overview for each scanning type.
E-mail
Operate From the Printer
"Sending Scanned Data via E-mail (Scan to Email) (P.139)"
USB
Operate From the Printer
"Storing Scanned Data to a USB Flash Drive (Scan to USB Drive) (P.138)"
The resolution setting to use when scanning depends on a document type and how you plan to use the scanned
data in your computer. For the best results, use these recommended settings.
Type Resolution
Documents 300 dpi black-and-white or 200 dpi grayscale or color
Documents of poor quality or that contain small text 400 dpi black-and-white or 300 dpi grayscale
Photographs and pictures 100–200 dpi color or 200 dpi grayscale
Images for an inkjet printer 150–300 dpi
Images for a high-resolution printer 300–600 dpi
Scanning above the recommended resolutions may exceed the capabilities of the program used when scanning.
To scan above the recommended resolutions, preview (or pre-scan) and crop the image to reduce the size before
scanning the image.
4. Tap the button under [File Format], and then select the file format you want to convert your scanned
document to.

Recycling Supplies
• For environmental protection and efficient use of resources, Fuji Xerox reuses returned toner cartridges
and drums (photoreceptors) to make recycle parts, recycle materials or energy recovery.
• Proper disposal is required for toner cartridges and drums (photoreceptors) no longer needed. Do not open
toner cartridges and drums (photoreceptors). Return them to your local Fuji Xerox representative.
WARNING
• Never use a vacuum cleaner for spilled toner and residual toner in this product, toner cartridge or toner bottle.
It may catch fire by electric sparks inside a vacuum cleaner and cause explosion.
Use a broom or a wet cloth to wipe off the spills. If you spill a large volume of toner, contact your local Fuji Xerox
representative.
• Never throw a toner cartridge into an open flame. Remaining toner in the cartridge may catch fire and cause
burn injuries or explosion.
If you have a used toner cartridge no longer needed, contact your local Fuji Xerox representative for its
disposal.
• Never throw a waste toner bottle into an open flame. Toner may catch fire and cause burn injuries or explosion.
If you have a used waste toner bottle no longer needed, contact your local Fuji Xerox representative for its

2. Wipe the DADF feed rollers and DADF retard pad with a dry soft lint-free cloth or paper towel.
Note
• If the DADF feed rollers and DADF retard pad get stained with ink, documents that go through the Duplex Automatic
Document Feeder (DADF) can also become stained. In this case, slightly dampen a soft lint-free cloth or paper towel
with a neutral detergent or water, and then wipe the stained parts.
1. Turn off the printer, and then disconnect the power cord, interface cable, and any other cables.
2. Remove any paper from the Duplex Automatic Document Feeder (DADF), and then retract the
document stopper.
3. Remove any paper in the output tray, and then return the output tray extension.
Note
• If you move the printer over a long distance, remove the toner cartridges from the printer to prevent toner from spilling,
and then pack the printer into a box. For details about how to remove the toner cartridges, see "Replacing the Toner
Cartridges (P.190)."
3. Gently lift the printer off the optional 550-sheet feeder, and then place it on a level surface.
Important
• Two people are required to lift the printer.
4. Connect all the cables into the rear of the printer, and then turn on the printer.
2. Press on the latch of the cable clamp to open the clamp, and then remove the power cord from the
clamp.
5. Loosen the two screws holding the cable hook, and then remove the hook from the cabinet.
4. Disconnect the power cord and all other cables from the rear of the printer.
6. Slide the lock switch of the optional 550-Sheet Feeder to the unlock position.
2. Slide the latch to the right, and then flip the latch towards you.
4. Push the release lever towards the front of the printer, and then pull out the wireless LAN adapter.

7.2 Possible Problems and Solutions
7.2.1 Basic Printer Problems
Some printer problems can be easily resolved. If a problem occurs with the printer, check each of the following.
• The power cord is plugged into the printer and a properly grounded electrical outlet.
• The printer is turned on.
• The electrical outlet is not turned off at any switch or breaker.
• Other electrical equipment plugged into the outlet is working.
• All optional accessories are properly installed.
If you have checked all of the above and still have a problem, turn off the printer, wait for 10 seconds, and then
turn on the printer. This often fixes the problem.
Note
• If error messages are displayed on the operator panel or on your computer screen, follow the on-screen instructions to
resolve the printer problems. For details about the error messages, see "Understanding Printer Messages (P.175)."
