Nature 2

1. The document outlines a plan to better understand and care for nature. It discusses how nature changes with the seasons and why science is important to understand natural phenomena. 2. Several ways humans have polluted the natural world are described, including polluting oceans, rivers and lakes with garbage and chemicals from towns, factories and oil spills. Air pollution from vehicles and factories is also discussed. 3. The importance of protecting forests, waterways and the ozone layer is emphasized to preserve the natural world for future generations.

1. The Earth is Our Home

Imagine that we are on the other planet and we are telling somebody about out planet –
Earth…
Our planet is called Earth, it is very beautiful. From the space it is blue and green,
because there is much water and there are many plants on it.
But the planet is polluted – there are many chemicals in the air and water, and garbage on
the ground. And many people do their best to clean our beautiful house.
There are many countries on the Earth, each with its own climate. For example mine,
Ukraine, has got a cool temperate (rainy, summers are warm and winters are not cold) and warm
temperate ones (very hot, dry summer, cold winter).Egypt has got desert climate (cold at night
and very hot in the day). In Greenland there is polar climate (very cold with strong, dry wind).
So, Earth is our home. It is so different, but it’s beautiful. Let’s take care of it!

2. Nature is Like Poetry

There are four seasons of the year in Ukraine, the country I live in.
The first season is winter. It’s a very beautiful time of the year. The first winter month is
December, when the rivers freeze and it begins to snow. January is the second winter month and
it is also the coldest month of the year. There is much snow. In February, the third winter month,
the rivers are still covered with ice. It has been winter still. Many of the birds, which you can see
during the winter, gather in flocks.
Spring is the second season of the year. In spring nature is the most beautiful. After a
long winter it is great that spring comes. March is the first spring month. In March the snow
melts, birds come back and begin building their new nests. You can see many beautiful flowers,
such as violets and snowdrops. In April we say spring has come. There are new grass, new
leaves and new buds. More birds come back and build their nests. Tulips, narcissi, and king’s
lilies come to being in April. In May the grass is green and the trees are in blossom. It is usually
warm and sunny in May. There also are many flowers – peonies, lilacs, roses.
Summer is the third season of the year. It starts in June. July is the hottest summer month.
There are many flowers, fruit and vegetables that begin to ripe in August. The wheat is gathered
in the fields. In summer we go to swim in the sea, or river, or lake. We can listen to the beautiful
birds’ singing. It is a great time because we have holidays at school. It is a good season to have
a rest. The sky is so beautiful with all those large stars at night. When the stars fall in August, we
can make a wish. And it will come true if we manage to do it while the stat is falling!
Autumn is the last, fourth season of the year. It is a beautiful and productive season.
Autumn begins with September. The weather is bright and most days the sky is blue. In the
morning there is thick dew on the grass. But it’s not as warm as it was in summer. In September
leaver begin to change their color. There are many mushrooms in summer, and it’s a good time
to go to the forest. In October the leaves change their color completely and begin to fall down the
trees to the ground. In September and October many fruit and vegetables ripe. In October the
birds begin to fly to the South. Few leaves remain on the trees. And they are not green, but red,
orange, yellow, and brown. In November it’s often very windy, and foggy, and it snows
sometimes. Many birds fly away. It’s the end of Autumn.
These are our beautiful seasons. And we can say Nature is like Poetry.
3. To Understand Nature Better We Need to Study Science

We must understand Nature better, because we should love our Nature more and take
care of it. When we study sciences about nature (astronomy, biology, geography, chemistry, and
physics) we learn many interesting and true things. For example, from our English lessons we
learned that birds came from dinosaurs. If there were no science, we wouldn’t learn this. We also
studied that some people thought that the rainbow was magic. They believed that it was a bridge
to the gods and if you could find the end of a rainbow, you could find a pot of gold there. But
now we know that rainbows are not magic. They are made of sunlight shining.

4. Take Care of Nature

We have lived on Earth for thousands of years. It has taken care of us, but have we really
taken care of our wonderful planet? Look at what we have done so far.

Our Seas, Lakes and Rivers

We have polluted most of our rivers, seas and lakes. We have thrown garbage from our
towns and cities into the oceans. We have also poured chemicals from factories into our beautiful
rivers and seas. This has killed millions of water animals and plants!
Oil spills from large ships pollute the oceans. Little, tiny microbes, which can be seen
only from a powerful microscope, clean nature. But they cannot do all work alone. We should
help them. Clean-up workers add chemicals to the water to break up the oil. This makes it
easier. Workers can put booms or barriers to stop the oil that help microbes. But the best way to
help them is not to pollute water.

The Air We Breathe

We have polluted the air with chemicals from our cars and factories. This has caused
serious health problems with thousands of people. But some countries people found clean fuel.
A. Farmer in England used chicken manure. The car was working, but the smell was terrible. 2.
In many countries there are electric cars, but they are very slow. 3. In Japan train uses magnet,
it’s fast, clean, quiet, but too expensive. 4. The train in Wales uses water to push a train down a
hill, and that can pull another train up the hill.

Our Forests
We have cut down thousands and thousands of trees, most of them in tropical rainforests,
have killed a large number of animals and plants, and they have disappeared forever. Cutting
down the rainforests has also caused flooding in many areas. We’ve got to stop now, before it’s
too late!

Ozone Layer
Around the Earth there is a special type of oxygen called ozone. Ozone is important
because it stops ultraviolet radiation from the sun. Many aerosol sprays and factories destroy
ozone and have made a very big hole in the ozone layer. This means that too much ultraviolet
radiation now enters Earth. This is very dangerous because it can cause cancer.
