INTRODUCTION
Gender inequality in the labor market is a persistent and complex issue/problem that affects
women around the world. Despite significant progress in recent times, women continue to face a
range of barriers to equal participation and often earn less than men for almost doing the same
job, or doing the same job (gender pay gap) in the workforce. This issue has been a topic of
discussion for years, but unfortunately, the problem persists even today. This dissertation will
explore the causes of gender inequality in the labor market in the Waterloo community, with a
focus on identifying the underlying social, economic, and cultural factors that contribute to the
problem.
RESEARCH PROBLEM
The research problem for the dissertation is to identify the causes of gender inequality in the
labor market in Waterloo community. Specifically, the study will seek to answer the following
research questions:
1. What are the main social, economic, and cultural factors that contribute to gender inequality
in the labor market?
2. How do these factors interact with each other to reinforce gender inequalities in the
workforce?
3. What policies and interventions have been effective in addressing gender inequality in the
labor market in the Waterloo community, and how can these be applied more broadly?
LITERATURE REVIEW
The literature review will explore existing research on gender inequality in the labor market,
with a focus on identifying key theories, concepts, and empirical findings related to the research
questions. The review will cover a range of disciplines, including economics, sociology, and
psychology, and will draw on both qualitative and quantitative studies.
OBJECTIVES
1. To identify the factors that contributes to gender inequality in the labor market in
Waterloo.
2. To examine the impact of cultural and social norms on gender inequality in the labor
market.
3. To explore the role of education and skills in reducing gender inequality in the labor
market.
4. To suggest measures to address gender inequality in the labor market.
METHODOLOGY
This proposal/study will be conducted using mixed-methods approach combining qualitative and
quantitative data collection and analysis. The qualitative component will involve in-depth
interviews with a sample of women and men in the labor market, as well as with key
stakeholders such as employers, policymakers, and labor unions. The quantitative component
will involve a survey of a larger sample of women and men in the labor market in the Waterloo
community, with a focus on measuring the extent and nature of gender inequalities in the
workplace. Data will be analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics, as well as
thematic analysis of the quantitative data. In the mixed methods approach of both the qualitative
and quantitative data collection, both male and female will be examine and also employers and
employees in different industries/companies.
DATA ANALYSIS
The qualitative data collected from the interviews will be analyzed using thematic analysis. The
quantitative data collected from the surveys will be analyzed using descriptive and inferential
statistics.

The bibliography will include a comprehensive list of all sources consulted in the literature
review and data analysis, including academic journals, books, and policy reports. Ethical
considerations related to informed consent, confidentiality, and data protection will be taken into
account throughout the research process.
Overall, this dissertation proposal aims to contribute to a better understanding of the causes of
gender inequality in the labor market in Waterloo, and to identify strategies and policies that can
be used to promote greater gender equality and social justice.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
The proposed study is expected to provide insight into the factors contributing to gender
inequality in the labor market in the Waterloo community. The study will identify the impact of
cultural and social norms on gender inequality, the role of education and skills in reducing
gender inequality, and suggest way or measures to address gender inequality in the labor market
in the Waterloo community.
CONCLUSION
Gender inequality in the labor market is a persistent issue that needs to be addressed. The
proposed study will provide insight into the factors contributing to gender inequality in the labor
market in Waterloo community and suggest ways to address the issue. This study will contribute
to the existing literature on gender inequality in the labor market in the Waterloo community and
provide policymakers with evidence-based recommendations to reduce and or totally wipe out
gender inequality in the labor market in Waterloo community.
