Fig.2.01: Topology of train control systems

The hardware topology in a train group consists of decentralized I/O islands, which are
connected to one another via communication cables.
Throughout the entire train group, the communication lines are mostly based on various
bus systems. Generally the connection between them is via gateways.
Typically, these gateways connect the train bus running beyond the car with the
vehicle bus or the consist bus in the car units.
The hardware topology within a car unit consists of decentralized I/O islands that are
connected to one another via the vehicle bus or the consist bus.
There are two possible structures for a decentralized I/O island:
1. A decentralized I/O island with a bus master/vehicle control unit
2. A decentralized I/O island with bus connection module and extension modules
The bus connection module connects the extension modules to the train system.
The extension modules are I/O modules for digital and/or analog signals.

Introduction and Overview Introduction

1.2 Application
®
The automation system Selectron MAS is used in a range of applications in rail vehicles,
from a control component through to a complete I&C system including train bus and
vehicle bus.
Range of applications:
 lighting
 heating
 ventilation
 air-conditioning
 sanitary areas
 doors
 traction monitoring
 service brake
 vehicle speed
 power supply

1.3 System Concept

1.3.1 Hardware
The system concept of the automation system Selectron® MAS integrates functions for
controlling, measuring, regulating, optimizing, communicating and networking. Users can
assemble their own system from individual modules as required for their particular
application, and the system can be adapted optimally whenever market requirements
change.

1.3.2 Software
Modern development tools are available to the user for programming purposes. These
®
tools run under Windows (CAP1131, TOP1131, WDLD1131, Maestro Pro and
SysCom PC). The programming languages, data types and structuring tools included in
the package correspond to the IEC 61131-3 standard and are described in detail in this
system manual.

1.3.3 Equipment Tests

All modules have been developed so as to meet the requirements laid down in the
EN 50155 standard.

Note
Selectron checks its modules according to the criteria listed in in
chapter "Standards and Test Regulations".

Central controllers are used in particular as vehicle control units.
The central controllers MAS 83x are documented in the "Transport System Manual"

1.5.3 Expandable Subsystems MAS 73x

The expandable subsystems MAS 73x are documented in the "Transport System Manual"
‒ Chapter 2, "Introduction and Overview", 1.5.2 Expandable Subsystems MAS 73x
‒ Chapter 6, "Decentralized Controllers MAS 73x"
‒ Chapter 7, "Node Modules MAS 73x"

1.5.4 Compatibility between the Bus Systems

IMPORTANT
The series MAS 72x and the series MAS 73x/83x have different extension busses
(also called "data busses").
The MOBI bus of the series MAS 72x and the CBus of the series MAS 73x/83x are
not compatible among each other, i.e.
within one decentralized I/O island you can only use one of these series ,
but of course, within vehicle itself you can combine differing decentralized
I/O islands via the vehicle bus or the consist bus. That means: within the same
vehcile these series can be combined.

Introduction and Overview Service Hotline

4. Service Hotline
Trouble-shooting should as far as possible be carried out systematically.

If a fault occurs, check the following points first:

 How was the fault detected?
 When did the fault first appear?
 Was the equipment previously operating faultlessly?
 Was any part of the system modified recently?
 When and under what circumstances does the malfunction occur?
 Can the fault be reproduced?
 Have attempts been made to rectify the fault?

Also refer to the description of the LEDs.

If you cannot locate the error, do not hesitate to call us.

Note
In order to be optimally prepared, please note
‒ the symptoms you have noticed
‒ the configuration of your system with hardware components, serial numbers,
version numbers, software releases, third-party components and, if
appropriate, dates of purchase

Then contact the Service Hotline.
