Lesson Plan in Science 10

This document contains a lesson plan for a science class on biomolecules. The lesson plan aims to teach students about the major categories of biomolecules - carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. The learning activities include identifying biomolecules from pictures, creating a graphic organizer of the elements in each biomolecule and its functions, and a biomolecule scavenger hunt. Students will then analyze the roles of biomolecules, classify examples, and discuss the importance of consuming a variety of biomolecules for the body. Finally, students will apply their knowledge by role playing biomolecule functions in cheer dancing or creating a healthy meal plan.

Lesson Plan in Science 10
Quarter 4 – Week 3
Date: June 27, 2023
I. Content Standard: The learner demonstrate an understanding of biomolecules,
which are made up mostly of a limited number of elements, such as carbon,
hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen.
II. Learning Competency: Recognize the major categories of biomolecules such as
carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. (S10MT-IVc-d-22)
III. Specific Learning Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, students shall be able to:
a. identify the major classes/categories of biomolecules;
b. create a graphic organizer showing the elements present in the major
categories of biomolecules and its function; and
c. show the importance of biomolecules in the food which is beneficial to
humans.

E. Subject Integration
Within Curriculum:
 SCIENCE 10 – Explain the relationship between volume and pressure
using the kinetic molecular theory. (S10MT-IIj-20)
 SCIENCE 9 – Recognize the general classes and uses of organic
compounds. (S9MT-11h-18)
 SCIENCE 7 – Recognize that substances are classified into elements and
compounds. (S7MT-lg-h-5)
Across Curriculum
 PHYSICAL EDUCATION 10 – Assesses physical activities (cheer
dancing), exercises and eating habits (Meal Plan). (PE10PF-Iva-h-39)

IV. Learning Procedure

A. REVIEW: Kinetic Molecular Theory

Direction: Identify the property of gases that is described by the following
observations. Choose the letter of the correct answer.
OBSERVATION PROPERTY EXPLAINED BY KINETIC
MOLECULAR THEORY

1. You smell the food being A. EXPANSION

cooked by your mother. B. DIFFUSION
C. PRESSURE
2. Basketball players know the D. SHAPE
right “feel” of the ball. E. DENSITY
3. A dough of pandesal increases
in size when placed in an oven.

B. MOTIVATION: Guess the Word

Instructions:
 The teacher will show several pictures for each word. The students will
guess the word by combining the sounds of each picture. This will help
them have hint of what our topic is all about.
 The students will play the PICK-PAK-BOOM.
ANSWER: CARBOHYDRATE

ANSWER: LIPIDS

ANSWER: PROTEIN

ANSWER: NUCLEIC ACID

ANSWER: BIOMOLECULES

C. ACTIVITY: Multiple Intelligences

Directions: The class will be divided into three groups and will be given
respective tasks to perform. Each group will be given hand outs as their
reference in completing their respective tasks.

GROUP I- (Linguistic) Make an acronym with the word BIOMOLECULES and

identify its 4 major categories.
Group II- (Logical/Graphic Organization)-Create a graphic organizer showing the
elements present in the major categories of biomolecules and its function.
Biomolecule/
Elements Present Function
Macromolecule
Carbohydrates

Proteins
Lipids
Nucleic Acids

Group III- (Bodily-Kinaesthetic) Biomolecule Scavenger Hunt – Before the

class starts, the teacher hides different types of food items around the classroom.
The group will find three kinds of biomolecules and they will name and explain its
category and functions.
Group IV- (Nature Smart) There are four major categories of Biomolecules –
Carbohydrates, Proteins, Lipids and Nucleic Acids. Classify the following
examples or pictures in accordance to what categories of biomolecules they
belong.

CARBOHYDRATES PROTEIN LIPIDS NUCLEIC ACID

 The teacher will use a rubric to evaluate each group’s presentation.
Students can look at this rubric so they may understand what they are
being graded on. (Attached Collaborative Group Work Rubrics herewith.)
 Note: before starting the activity, the teacher will first present the rubrics.
D. ANALYSIS
 The teacher asks questions about the result of the respective activities and
clarifies any misconceptions.
 The following are the guide questions:
1. Define and describe biomolecules.
2. What are the major categories of biomolecules?
3. What are the elements present in biomolecules?
4. How does each macromolecule perform in our body system?
5. If one of those macromolecules will not be consumed by our body?
What do you think will happen?

E. ABSTRACTION: Inquiry-Based Learning Approach/ Socratic Method

Table 1. What do biomolecules do?
