Day 3

This document outlines a lesson plan on the female reproductive system for 10th grade science students. The objectives are for students to describe the parts of the reproductive system and their functions, with a focus on the sites of egg production. The lesson includes activities where students will assemble a jigsaw puzzle of the female reproductive system and label the parts and their functions. It also includes showing a video on the transportation and delivery of eggs to reinforce concepts. The goal is for students to understand that the ovaries are the most important part as they produce eggs and sex hormones.

FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM
ASSEMBLE THE JIGSAW

Objective:
3. Students will be able to review the parts of the female reproductive system.
4. Students will be able to collaborate their thoughts and efforts to make the activity a success.

Materials
5 (or more depends on the number of groups) ½ White Cartolina
Blank drawing of the Female Reproductive System
Coloring materials
Pencil
Double sided tape
Scissors
5 (or more depends on the number of groups) Manila Papers
Meta cards (for the parts of the Female Reproductive System)
Meta cards (for the functions of the parts of the Female Reproductive System)

Procedure
Preparations for the puzzle
1. The teacher will prepare jigsaw puzzles of the unlabeled internal female reproductive
system.
2. The puzzle may be drawn in a ½ white cartolina or copy an unlabeled female
reproductive system from the internet. Make a ‘tarpapel’ and paste in the ½ cartolina.
3. Cut the drawing into 10 jigsaw pieces in your desired shapes.
4. There should be enough internal female reproductive system puzzles to be given to
the class so that one female reproductive system puzzles per group. (If there are 5
groups in a class, make 5 drawings to make jigsaw.)

Preparation for the Parts of the Female Reproductive System

1. Write the following parts in a meta card with a width of 5 inches and a height of 2
inches, enough for the class to see the parts when it is displayed on the board.
Vagina Cervix Uterus
Fallopian tube Ovary
2. Enough meta card of the parts of the Female Reproductive System should be made
to be given to each group.

Preparation for the Function of each part of the Female Reproductive System
1. Write the following functions in a meta card enough to be seen by the class during the
discussion but only one meta card for each function will be made because these will
not be given to each group but instead will be used during the class discussion.
PART FUNCTION
Vagina - Receives the penis of the male during intercourse
- The birth canal
Cervix - The neck of the uterus
Uterus - Where fertilized egg develops
- Nurtures the development of a new individual
- Provides nourishment for the new individual
Fallopian tubes/ - Serves as passageway of eggs from the ovary to the uterus
Oviducts - Where fertilization of egg and sperm occurs
Ovary - Produces the female sex cells, egg cell
- Produces the female sex hormones, estrogen and progesterone

During class
35
1. The class will be divided into groups with 5 persons each group. Each group will be
given a puzzle (10 pieces) with double sided tape at the back, meta cards of the parts of
the system (with double sided tape at the back) and manila paper.
2. The students will have 3 minutes only to assemble the puzzle and taping the meta card
to its corresponding part of the female reproductive system then tape it on the manila
paper.
3. When the 3 minutes time is finished, let each group display their output.
4. Points will be given to the group who finished within 3 minutes and assembled correctly
the puzzle:
First = 15 pts
Second = 10 pts
Third = 5 pts
5. Points will also be given for identifying correctly the corresponding parts of the female
reproductive system.

ACTIVITY 2

WHERE EGG CELL GO

Objectives:
1. Students will be able to identify the pathway of the egg cell/ ovum based on the video.
2. Students will be able to show the collaboration of their talents in identifying the pathway of
the egg cell/ ovum.

Materials:
TV/ DLP projector Laptop downloaded video -https://youtu.be/nLmg4wSHdxQ
Speakers HDMI/ USB/ VGA

Procedure:
1. Let the students watch the 2-minute video https://youtu.be/nLmg4wSHdxQ to make them
learn more on the transportation and delivery of the egg.
2. After the video showing, students will be grouped into three and give each group an
assigned task such as the following:

Group 1:
Let the group draw in their manila paper a sketch of the internal structure of the female
reproductive system. Using a colored pen/ crayon/ colored pen, let them trace the path of
the egg cell from the ovary to the vagina, assuming the egg is unfertilized. Let them make a
group yell before and after their presentation.

Group 2:
The group will make a flow chart showing what happens to the egg cell/ ovum inside the
ovary until it moves out from the ovary down to the last part of the female reproductive
system. Let them make a group yell before and after their presentation.

Group 3:
The group will compose a song about the life of the egg cell/ ova. And present it to the class.

3. After 10 minutes, each group will present their output to the class.
4. Rubrics for the activity may be used for the activity:

37
(FOR THE NEXT DAY LESSON)

Objectives:
1. Students will be able to infer the significance of a healthy female reproductive system in the
procreation of life.
2. Students will be able to develop their ICT ability in doing research.

Materials:
Manila paper a Power point presentation may be used as visual aid
Pentel pen

Procedure:

1. Students will be divided into 5 groups and will be given one problem each group for them to
research.
2. A format of the report will be given such as:
a. The group must write their assigned problem and the answers in a manila paper or in a
power point presentation.
b. The references should be written after the answers in the manila paper or in the power
point presentation.
c. Each group will be given 3 minutes only to report.
3. The following are the problems:

Problem 1.
A girl lives in a squatter area with no water nearby for her to bathe everyday or to wash any
parts of her body any time of the day. The water they get from other barangay will be for
drinking only. She can only wash her body once in a week.
Do you think the girl has a healthy reproductive system? Why?
Cite at least 5 female reproductive diseases or disorders the girl can acquire for not washing
or for not taking a bath everyday.

Problem 2.
According to a certain study, smoking can cause problems for virtually all aspects of the
reproductive system. Women who smoke are more likely to have difficulty conceiving,
may not respond as well to treatment for infertility, experience earlier menopause and
have an increased risk of cervical and vulval cancer.
Why is it that smoking can cause problems in the female reproductive system? What is
in cigarette smoke that may cause problems of the system? (Integrate other systems of
the body.)

Problem 3.
Mary became pregnant at the age of 14. She gave birth prematurely at the 6 th month.
Her premature fetus died minutes after it was delivered. The doctor told her parents that
Mary’s uterus was not yet ready for the development of an embryo.
Why did the doctor said that Mary’s uterus was not yet ready for the development of an
embryo? Can Mary get pregnant again after the premature birth of her baby?

Problem 4.
A certain woman has many sexual partners. One day in her life, she was diagnosed to
have contacted sexually transmitted infection such as gonorrhea.
Why did the woman have contacted gonorrhea? Can she get pregnant after she’ll be
cured from gonorrhea and get married?

Problem 5.
38
A certain lady is overweight. She belongs to obese in BMI result. She got married but
after 7 years of trying to conceive, it was a failure. Her ob-gyne doctor told her to lose
weight so that she’ll get pregnant.
Why did the doctor ask her to lose weight? What is the relationship with her weight and
getting pregnant?
