Standard 7.1: The institution must have the infrastructure to support new trends such as e-
learning.
There are many new trends introduced to focus on smart university and following is the detail
of some of the trends:
Standard 7.2: The library must possess an up-to-date technical collection relevant to the
Program and must be adequately staffed with professional personnel.
Standard 7.3: Classroom must be adequately equipped and offices must be adequate to
enable faculty to carry out their responsibilities.
Considering the student strength nearly 400, the numbers of class rooms are adequate to carry
out daily lecture activities. Each lecture hall has a capacity for 50 students, currently these
lecture halls are not air conditioned but administration is working on that proposal. Currently
these class rooms have fixed multimedia support to handle multimedia and network related
issues along with the provision of wi-fi access points around in each class.
Considering the faculty strength of 12, a number of offices for the IT faculty are adequate.
The University has approved for the construction of more new offices of IT Faculty. Wi-Fi
access point is available for the staff to perform research activities.
The lecture hall and IT staff offices are currently state of the art and the university
administration is still working to add value to this infrastructure.
Criterion – 8: Institutional Support
Standard 8-1: There must be sufficient support and financial resources to attract and retain
high quality faculty and provide the means for them to maintain competence as teachers and
scholars.
University allocates enough financial resources each year to hire competent faculty as
required.
As already mentioned in standard 5-3, the process of retaining faculty members by attractive
remunerations and compensations packages, offering research/workshop grants and
rewarding teaching efforts is under process and time relaxation is given to Ph.D. scholars as
per norm. Recently ORIC department has started in Jan 2017 and they are trying to regulate
research activities and facilities among faculty members.
As listed in standard 6-2, Faculty members are provided with adequate resources for research
and academic activities to maintain their competence. The internet down-time has
considerably reduced during ongoing traffic rising trend and the university IT support staff is
working to bring it down a notch in the future. Moreover, LGU staff has access to digital
library and to some well-known online journals for academic and research activities. The
department provides a platform to the faculty to write research papers as quarterly university
journal is published and raise their research standards. From time to time, teaching assistants
are hired to provide support to existing faculty for managing their day-to-day affairs in
handling course workload and research related activities.
The department maintains a liaison with HEC regarding the convention of conferences for its
faculty members.
Following is the number of students graduated from LGU with the degree of MS(CS):
Student Graduate
The teacher to student ratio for last three years is provided below: -
Faculty-Student Ratio
No.
Year # of Faculty # of Students Faculty: Students
1 Spring 2021 3 4 1.33 : 1
2 Fall 2021 3 8 2.67 : 1
3 Sping 2022 3 5 1.67 : 1
LGU has recently started M.Phil. program in IT. There are adequate numbers of MS(IT)
students currently busy in research under the supervision of faculty members.
8.3.1 Library
The university library has been built for all departments of the Lahore Garrison University
and remains open from 8:00AM to 4:00 PM everyday including weekends for the MPhil/PhD
students. It has the sitting capacity of 150 students and is part of the LGU online library
system.
Total number of books available in the area of computer science for students and staff is 850.
In addition to this, the library provides access to online international academic journals using
the PERN.
Pakistan Education & Research Network is the only research and education network of
Pakistan purpose is to provide communication infrastructure to the universities, institutions of
higher learning and research organizations to meet their networking and internet
requirements.
The library also has 4 computer workstations for use by the students.
Currently, there are 4 dedicated labs in the Computer Science Department. The laboratories
are mostly available to students for class timings. Lab Computers are updated with core i7
that is big achievement for the department.
It’s a matter of pride and honor for LGU that the laboratories of our Computer
Science Department are now the registered test center for National Testing Service (NTS).
Our university services are being utilized for holding entry tests for multiple institutions of
the country.
Another great proud for LGU, NAB Officers got training from DFRSC (Digital Forensics
Research and Service Centre) and were tested in computer science labs under the supervision
of DFRSC staff.
The budget allocated for all equipment’s (IT, office & furniture) is 5590000 Rupees for
current year.
Supporting staff members have personal computer as well as access to the dedicated printer
of the Computer Science department. Every faculty member uses his/her own laptop and has
been provided printers in each of their staff rooms.
