Directions: Do this exercise independently. Write one sentence on the first line. Write another
sentence on the second line. Then join the two sentences together with an appropriate
coordinating conjunction to build a compound sentence on the third line.

Example: yet

1. People complain that humans are causing global warming.


2. The world is cooler today than it was during the time of the dinosaurs.
3. People complain that humans are causing global warming, yet the world is cooler today
than it was during the time of the dinosaurs!

Step 1: Determine the relationship between the idea of sentence 1 and the idea of sentence 2.

Step 2: Select the best conjunction word to express the relationship.

Step 3: Put the comma punctuation (,) and the conjunction word in the middle to link the two
sentences into one sentence.

*Use the correct changes with nor:


a) remove the second “not”
b) put the do verb or be verb before the second noun
