Position Description
Senior Specialist, Systems
Overview
Maintains, up-grades and enhances Deakin Residential Services’ (DRS) systems to ensure optimal performance, security
and integration. Provides advice and technical direction for the design and development of new software, modification
of existing software and support for enterprise and emergent technologies utilised by DRS and other relevant areas of
the University.
Collaborates extensively with the DRS leadership team and Digital Services and to ensure security, governance and best
practice principles are maintained. Provides specialist advice to identify and resolve incidents and problems across the
full range of DRS systems.
Responsibilities
• Install, configure, and maintain hardware, operating systems, and software. This includes software updates,
security patches, and general configuration maintenance
• Monitor services to ensure they are running correctly, securely, and are performing
• Provide specialist technical services to identify and resolve incidents and problems across a broad range of
services
• Use accepted theory and practices to develop and deploy continuous improvement actions to ensure
implementation of continuous improvement strategies in own work area
• Navigate appropriate course of action, gain agreement on preferred approach and prepare advice
(information, materials and recommendations) to meet specific stakeholder style, and requirements
• Interpret needs and offers pragmatic, inclusive and sustainable solutions based on research and in alignment
with University context, policies and practices
• Proactively create, establish and retain professional networks, mutually beneficial relationships and considers
practical application and alignment within Deakin
• Use understanding of the client context to anticipate needs, tailor services, improve service offering and
ensure a high-quality outcome by addressing client feedback and setting service standards
• Use understanding of the target audience to structure and shape communication to meet their information
needs or concerns and anticipate and prepare for the audience’s reactions and questions
• Act as a coach and work with team members to facilitate growth and development by giving balanced,
constructive feedback considering individual capability and team performance, in alignment with Deakin’s
code of conduct and core university strategies and policies that promote a safe, sustainable and productive
working environment.
