UNEMPLOYEMENT RATE IN PAKISTAN

1. Executive summary:
Unemployment is the condition of one who is capable of working, actively
seeking work, but unable to find any work.
Unemployment is the most challenging issues of Pakistan. Causes and
consequences of unemployment in Pakistan can be find in the country’s
educational system that provide less skills and technical exposure. The
other major cause is the lack of investment due to uncertain environment
contributed by terrorism, discrimination, sectarianism absence of merit
system and so on.
In Pakistan we see educational system is substandard, parents give their
own direction to choose field of study instead of asking their children’s
interest which results in the structural mismatch and wrong guidelines
there’s also a culture of nepotism and political interference.
Many intelligent and high skilled students can’t get job just because they
don’t have any reference so they failed. On the other hand, those people
who are illiterate because of poverty and poverty is because they are not
employed. Industries play an important role in any country to overcome
unemployment rate and economic crisis. Lack of industries, lack of big
projects and lack of funds are the critical issues of Pakistan
1. Unemployment defined:
The state of being without any work yet looking for work is called
unemployment.

2. Introduction:
Pakistan is one the populated country in the world and is a part of
developing countries; the issue of unemployment has caused a significant
damage to the overall welfare and economy of the country. In this report
we discussing different types of unemployment that exist in Pakistan, with
the determinants that has caused the unemployment in Pakistan , along
with the consequences that has emerged from it. Furthermore. What have
been the government policies in that regards, and some possible solutions
therefore.

3. Background

IN 2021, the unemployment rate in Pakistan was at approximately 4.35

percent, a slight increases from 4.3 percent the previous year. The
unemployment rate of a country represents the share of people with a job
in the country’s labor force.
In history, unemployment rate in Pakistan averaged 5.44% from 1985 until
2021, reaching an all-time high of 7.80% in 2002 and a record low of 3.10%
in 1987. The youth unemployment rate is quite high as compared to the
average unemployment rate. The highest overall unemployment rate
(11.56pc) is prevalent among the age group of 20-24 years. Furthermore,
higher levels of poverty compel the children and women of poor families to
join the labor force. The reforms introduced by the government during 1972
-77 added a major element of uncertainty in economic relations which
could not be removed by subsequent assurances. Furthermore, the adverse
weather conditions severely affected agricultural output in the mid-1070s.
The external factors also played a major role slowing down the economic
activity in the first half of the 1970s.

4. CAUSES:

Pakistan, an Asian country, is dealing with a number of difficulties at the

moment, with unemployment being one among them. In response to a
scarcity of available resources, the unemployment rate in Pakistan is
growing rapidly, and when joblessness occurs, various criminal activities
are triggered by default. This report has made every effort to identify some
of the most significant reasons of unemployment in Pakistan, as well as
potential solutions
The following are the factors that contribute to unemployment in Pakistan

 Rapidly growing population rate:

The uncontrolled rise of the population in Pakistan is one of the most

serious concern facing the country’s unemployed. Population is growing at
an alarmingly rapid rate at the moment. According to official’s statistics,
the population of Pakistan is growing at a pace of 2.2 percent per year.

 Our education system

The education system in Pakistan has not progressed in line with the
passage of time. There are a number of technical collages that provide
students with training, but this training does not meet the needs of the
industry.
 Pakistan’s current Economic situation:
Pakistan’s economic declines no longer a mystery in these modern times.
The prices of everyday things have skyrocketed to absurd levels. As a
result, there is a shortage of demand.

 Energy crisis in the country

Pakistan’s energy crisis is the primary source of concern for all factories
and industries in the country. Because the price of electricity is excessively
expensive when compared to the product of other countries.

 High taxation rate:

Raw – materials taxation, import taxation, property taxation income
taxation, and revenue taxation are all contributing to the decline of our
industry, which is the result of which sector is not growing.

 Rapid increase in dollar rate:

The dollar rate are increasing with each new day, and this trend will
continue. Because of the rise in the rate of misery, our own currency is
becoming increasingly corrosive. When we sell anything for $1 in the
foreign market, it costs us 167 Rs in the domestic market. The value is
decreasing.

5. Recommendations:

1. The first step towards reducing unemployment in Pakistan is for the

government of Pakistan to develop a comprehensive plan.
2. It is necessary to build well recognized training and technical
institutes where skill programs can be delivered.
3. At the very least, the retirement age should be 55 years old.
4. Remove the energy situation so that investors will flock to Pakistan,
resulting in the automating creation of job opportunities.

5. It is necessary to improve the agricultural sector.

6. Multinational corporations are interested in doing business in
Pakistan.
7. Centers for family planning should be established in order to stem
the tide of overpopulation.
