Form 3 Fact and Opinion

This document provides a lesson on distinguishing between facts and opinions. It defines a fact as a true statement that can be proven, like the sun being part of the solar system. An opinion is a personal view or thought that may or may not be true, like thinking roses are the most beautiful flowers. The lesson lists activities for students to read about the difference, review examples, respond with explanations, explore additional resources, practice with a quiz, and assess their understanding by creating a graphic representing the differences between facts and opinions.

Read
What is a Fact

A fact is something that is true. An example of a fact is

that the sun is part of our solar system. This is a true
statement.

What is an Opinion

An opinion is the thoughts and views of persons concerning

someone or something. Therefore, an opinion may or may not
be true. An example of an opinion is that Mary believes
roses are the most beautiful flowers. This statement is not
necessarily true, it is just how Mary feels.

A fact can be proven whereas, an opinion might not be able

to be proven. A fact will be unbiased giving a range of
perspectives and presenting information objectively.
Whereas an opinion might be biased containing some
measure of persuasion.
