Coupling & Un-Coupling
Wheels are chocked, Brakes are applied, Vehicle in neutral, Vehicle is safe and
secure.
Say, Ground is solid and level. (Both Legs)
Lower the landing leg
Say , Landing leg handle is safe and secure in lower gear.
Disconnect the lines ( air & electrical)
Say, Lines are safe and secure
Unlock the 5th Wheel (take lever and pull)
Say, Release lever in unlocked position and jaw pin is out.
Go under trailer, Say, Jaws are opened.
Say, I will disconnect the tractor from trailer.
Go to cab , 4 way flashes on and truck start.
Yellow IN (RELEASE) and Red OUT (APPLY)
Move forward until 5th wheel come outside and keep one palm distance
between 5th wheel and trailer.
Truck ON, Yellow OUT (Apply) and Red OUT (Apply)
Come down and push trailer side
Say, Good gap between 5th wheel and trailer, Trailer has landed safely on landing
legs and weight of the trailer supporting by landing legs.
Say, I will move according to your direction.
Move 90 degree left or right
Truck OFF, Yellow OUT (Apply) and Red OUT (Apply)
Enter Cat walk
Air lines and electrical line – No crack, No damage, Properly connected to
tractor.
Lines (Run hands) - no crack, no damage, no cut.
Air lines – properly attached to glad hands.
Glad hands - No crack, No damage.
Glad hand seals - no crack, no damage, no cut, no bend.
Electrical line - properly attached to electrical plug.
Electrical plug - No crack, No damage, no blockage.
Lines safe and secure.
5th wheel – moved up & down, no crack, no damage, no hole, properly greased
Pivot pin – Present , no crack, no damage.
Pivot pin fastner - Present , no crack, no damage.
5th wheel and coupler fastners - no crack, no damage, tight & secure, Properly
attached.
4 way flashes are working and jaws are properly greased.(center)
5th wheel – no crack, no damage, no hole, properly greased (right side)
Pivot pin – Present , no crack, no damage. (right side)
Pivot pin fastner - Present , no crack, no damage. (right side)
5th wheel and coupler fastners - no crack, no damage, tight & secure, Properly
attached. (right side)
Say, now I will re-connect tractor with trailer and my way is clear.
Go in the cab and do 2 times city horn.
Do backup and enter the 5th wheel half of under trailer and secure the vehicle
and come down.
Say, Trailer height is good according to 5 th wheel.
Trailer Glad hands - No crack, No damage, Properly attached.
Glad hand seals - no crack, no damage, no cut, no bend.
Electrical box - No crack, No damage, no blockage, no bend, 7 pins present.
Go under trailer
Apron plate - No crack, No damage, no hole, properly greased.
King pin - No crack, No damage, no blockage, no bend, properly greased.
Say, Jaws and king pin are in line.
Say, now I will connect my tractor with trailer and do 2 times Tug test.
Go inside cab and connect the tractor with trailer (listen for lock sound)
Then do 2 times tug test by forwarding tractor only.
Come down and say, 2 times tug test is successful that means the locking
mechanism is working.
5th wheel lever and jaw pin are in locked position.
No Gap between 5th wheel and trailer.
Go under trailer – Say, Jaws are locked around King Pin.
Now I will connect air lines and electrical line.
After come down from catwalk and look for trailer 4 way flashes
Say, trailer 4 way flashes are working that means electrical line connected
properly.
Now I will raise landing leg.
Say , Landing leg handle is safe and secure in lower gear.
Say, I will check any audible air leak in the lines.(service & supply)
Go inside cab and switch off 4 way flashes and fan etc…
RED IN (RELEASE) AND YELLOW OUT(APPLY).
Wait 5 seconds , eyes on gauges and ears out.
No audible air leak in the supply line, gauges are stable that means supply line
connected properly.
Now apply service brake.
Wait 5 seconds , eyes on gauges and ears out.
No audible air leak in the service line, gauges are stable that means service line
connected properly.
Before release the service brake pedal , secure the vehicle.
Yellow OUT (Apply) and Red OUT (Apply)
Come down
Coupling & un-coupling is successful.
