To develop a thorough disaster preparedness plan that can aid in reducing the risk of injury, property damage, or loss of life in the case of tectonic-related disasters
Goal
such as a tsunami, earthquake, or volcanic eruption.
Role As a Planning Officer of the DRRMO (Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office)
Audience Local community members such as individuals, families, and local organizations
Each city in the Philippines has its own DRRM office, which is responsible for preparing, implementing, and coordinating disaster risk reduction and management plans
at the local level. The local DRRM office works closely with the NDRRMC and other national agencies to ensure that disaster response efforts are coordinated and
effective.
Situation
Your neighborhood is in a region prone to tsunamis, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions. While some preparatory efforts have been made in the past, a complete and
up-to-date disaster preparedness strategy is still required.
As a planning officer for your city’s DRRMO, you are tasked to develop a thorough disaster preparedness plan.
You will create and present a disaster preparation strategy to the members of the local community, which can be in the form of:
● Written Evacuation Plan - providing details on what actions to take during an emergency, the routes available and safest to take, and the assembly points and
processes for evacuating people to safety in case of a disaster
● Communication Plan and Emergency Kit - detailing the different communication channels (e.g social media, phone, email, text, etc) that will be used in case of
Product emergency; identifying who will be responsible for communicating through each channel and how information will be disseminated; suggesting alternative
communication system in case primary channels fail; and outlining in an emergency supplies checklist the essential goods that people and families should
have on hand in the case of a disaster
● A training and education plan outlining variety of learning methods and delivery methods of educating community members on disaster preparedness and
response before, during and after the incident
You will create a disaster preparation strategy, that will contain the following components:
● Written Evacuation Plan - providing details on what actions to take during an emergency, the routes available and safest to take, and the assembly points and processes for evacuating
people to safety in case of a disaster
● Communication Plan and Emergency Kit - detailing the different communication channels (e.g social media, phone, email, text, etc) that will be used in case of emergency; identifying
who will be responsible for communicating through each channel and how information will be disseminated; suggesting alternative communication system in case primary channels fail;
and outlining in an emergency supplies checklist the essential goods that people and families should have on hand in the case of a disaster
● A training and education plan outlining variety of learning methods and delivery methods of educating community members on disaster preparedness and response before, during and
after the incident including the origin and nature of the disaster
Your work will be evaluated with the following criteria, accuracy of content, relevance, comprehensiveness, and feasibility of recommended mitigation measures.
PERFORMANCE STANDARD: The learners shall demonstrate ways to ensure disaster preparedness during earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions and suggest ways by which he/she
can contribute to government efforts in reducing damage due to earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions.
PERFORMANCE TASK SCENARIO: Each city in the Philippines has its own DRRM office, which is responsible for preparing, implementing, and coordinating disaster risk reduction and
management plans at the local level. The local DRRM office works closely with the NDRRMC and other national agencies to ensure that disaster response efforts are coordinated and effective.
Your neighborhood is in a region prone to tsunamis, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions. While some preparatory efforts have been made in the past, a complete and up-to-date disaster
preparedness strategy is still required.
DIRECTIONS: Complete the activities on this checklist in order from top to bottom. You will find directions for each step and a place to record any notes or thoughts you want to remember.
Record the date you have completed each step and submit the output in the last column. You will have some control over how fast you move through these steps, but be sure to pay attention to
the final due date.
